The Semiconductor Engineering and Fabrication Director role ensures the creation and supply of high performance and quality semiconductor components for various applications in Apple's product portfolio. This highly cross functional role requires a leader who can effortlessly operate with a broad cross-section of Apple, including: Design, Process, Test, Reliability and Operations teams. A key responsibility of this role is ensuring the successful development and transfer of novel technologies to external partners for mass production. Reporting to this role are groups of fab integration engineers, process sequence development engineers, manufacturing technicians, fab equipment engineers and fab operation teams. The ideal candidate will have a deep technical background in optics, materials science, and electronics. Additionally, the candidate would bring a successful track record of leadership, fab management, and design of and process development for III-V semiconductors.

Description

Responsible for maintaining fab operations, including safety standards, reaching productivity goals, maintaining equipment capabilities, controlling budget and investment plans, and managing of critical issues, e.g. line-down situations, also responsible for technology transfer to external partners including process bringup and integration. The Director of Semiconductor Engineering and Fabrication will be responsible for: - Developing III-V semiconductor devices and manufacturing process flows on time, in spec, and on budget - Identifying and overseeing relationships with external vendor partners: technology transfer, risk management, escalation management - Manage external vendors for technology transfer and process bringup - Leading technical reviews both internally and with vendors - Maintaining quality standards in the fab - Assembling and managing task forces to tackle critical issues - Producing assessments of manufacturing maturity and risks - Mentoring and fostering a large team to enable an inclusive and successful environment - Reporting to Steering Boards and Executive leadership - Maintaining effective collaboration with cross-functional teams

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience in semiconductor process engineering, semiconductor product development and mass production
  • Experience with modern high volume semiconductor fabrication processes (Litho, etch, implant, oxidation, thin films, wafer acceptance testing and high-volume test solutions, assembly)
  • Significant experience in III-V semiconductors
  • Expertise in problem solving methods and ability to moderate root cause analysis to enable teams to solve complex problems
  • Expertise in consumer electronics quality requirements as defined for semiconductor products
  • Experience in leading large cross-functional teams, driving results, managing ambiguity and uncertainty
  • Record of owning and driving complex projects in cross-functional working environments to completion
  • Familiar with ISO standards and systems, FMEA, Phase Gate approach
  • Experience in vendor transfer management or wafer foundry management
  • Excellent project management skills, Program/Project Management experience preferred
  • Strong skills in collaboration, organization, and communication required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in data analysis tools and methods
  • Experience in transferring technologies from development status into mass production maturity

Education & Experience

BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $284,900 and $455,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
