Swift is a powerful, memory-safe, general-purpose programming language that supports multiple platforms from macOS, iOS, Linux, Windows, to embedded and more. We are looking for an Open Source Content Engineer to create amazing content to drive adoption of Swift in new use cases and platforms. This role will partner with the Swift community and its various steering and workgroup stakeholders to build learning pathways through documentation, tutorials, samples, and more. You will partner with other community members to build out community architecture for future documentarians of Swift as we grow into other platforms. You would join Apple's Open Source Program Office (OSPO), a passionate, collaborative, and distributed team that partners Apple-wide to support open source strategy and operations. Description

As an open source community builder, you know how to strike a balance of passion and pragmatism. You thrive on building sustainable content programs that developers, contributors, and consumers taut as high-quality documentation where the samples and tutorials "just work". Drawing from your experience, you'll: * lead documentation and content initiatives that bring in new community members to the Swift programming language and support the existing ecosystem * write content for swift.org, forums.swift.org, and other channels meeting the future developers of Swift where they are, and provide experienced developers with targeted content * review content changes from open source contributors and mentor / create pathways for them to contribute. A large part of this role will be interfacing with open source developers and contributors of many skill sets and backgrounds and writing Swift with them! If you don't already know Swift, you'll be expected to learn to prepare samples and tutorials. While there is an emphasis for new documentation and bringing in new users, this role will be responsible for being a bridge between what we have, the deltas of what's missing, and the content opportunities of what's ahead.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience building documentation and content programs for an open source community, ecosystem, and/or contributor base for at least one open source project
  • Strong technical writing skills and demonstrated experience with documenting programming language foundations, principles, and/or tooling.
  • Experience creating sample code, templates, and tutorials from scratch
  • Ability to pick up and learn new technologies and break down new concepts for others
  • Experience working with GitHub in a collaborative git environment and content publishing tools
  • 5+ years of writing documentation for an open source project(s) Demonstrated great communication and presentation skills, written and verbal, to all levels of an organization
  • You exude strong collaboration skills, including the ability to mentor and be mentored.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Programming language industry experience
  • Experience with Swift in some aspect
  • Ability to help other contributors with open source contribution issues like rebases, cherry picking and other collaboration workflows
  • Ability to unify open source teams, utilize outstanding influencing skills, and collaboratively work towards results
  • Strong facilitation, prioritization, and project management skills.
  • Comfortable with navigating ambiguity in order to build structured plans and solutions
  • Experience with DocC

Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $166,600 and $296,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

    Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
