The Camera Hardware Engineering group is responsible for all research, design, development, test, and qualification of camera hardware for Apple products. This team is seeking exceptional Hardware Engineers to take leadership roles in development and system integration of high performance compact LED modules, such as the adaptive strobe integrated into the iPhone 16 Pro! Engineers in this role will take ownership of illumination HW projects from concept to high-production volume ramp. This multidisciplinary role requires engagement with numerous product and technology teams covering many areas of expertise.

Description

- Design and trade-off studies of optics, emitter design, and packaging. - Interaction with optical, electrical, mechanical, and reliability engineering teams on product integration of LED modules. - Leadership of offshore manufacturing partners on module design evaluation, prototype builds and qualification for mass production. - Lead LED module testing at Apple labs and offshore manufacturing sites. - Characterization and failure analysis at component, module, and product levels. - Documentation of module design, test and manufacturing requirements. - Cross-functional interaction with vendors as well as electrical engineering, product design and industrial design teams. - International travel to supplier facilities as needed for product development and production bring-up.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optics, Physics or equivalent.
  • Background in LED device operation, processing, and/or optical design.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience in LED or optoelectronic module development, lens manufacturing, package assembly, electrical boards or component SMT.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to drive a cross-functional team. Communication and presentation skills tailored to technician, engineer and executive audiences, both internal and external.
  • Statistical analysis of large datasets, data reporting, and visualization. MATLAB or Python programming experience.
  • Color science experience related to digital imaging and illumination integration with cameras.
  • Optical design experience and exposure to LightTools or similar modeling software
  • Understanding of battery-based electrical driver architectures
  • Knowledge of injection molding methodology and DFM
  • Failure analysis and advanced materials characterization

Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

    Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
