Description

Apple's Biophotonics Group is seeking a scientist with experience in modeling and developing simulations of biological systems. The candidate will join a team of innovative scientists and engineers to design, validate, and implement the next generation of bio-sensing technologies. The candidate will have experience with simulated datasets that mimic real experimental signals collected from optical sensing devices. The ideal candidate will have experience with optical modeling applied to biological systems. Responsibilities: • Build and validate models of light in skin to answer research questions. • Identify sources of discrepancy and improve agreement between simulations and experiment. • Add physiological realism to models of skin. • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to answer research questions with simulations. • Integrate models, along with comprehensive testing and verification code, into existing simulation infrastructure. • Communicate technical progress through presentations.
  • Bachelor's degree in physics, applied physics, computer science, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with optical modeling and validation of simulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in physics, applied physics, computer science, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with optical modeling of scattering and absorbing media, ideally skin. Experience with Monte Carlo ray tracing or other optical simulation techniques.
  • Experience with analysis techniques to interpret optical data, including multivariate techniques such as principal component analysis.
  • Ability to interpret simulation results, including assumptions and limitations.
  • Ideally familiarity with human skin physiology.
  • Programming ability in Python, Matlab.
  • Strong in teamwork, verbal/written communication skills, and attention to detail.

Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

    Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
