Description
The Applied Biomechanics Researcher will be an integral part of an interdisciplinary research team within Design, generating insights to support product development. This role is responsible for framing questions, conducting studies, analyzing data, interpreting results, communicating actionable insights, and facilitating collaboration with cross-functional research teams. The team is expected to balance scientific curiosity, engineering practicality, and design sensibility. Some responsibilities include: • Work hands-on with prototypes. • Work with mechanical, electrical, and soft goods engineers on building novel and custom instrumentation. • In conducting studies, should have the ability to gather robust biomechanics data while gauging and incorporating subjective feedback, with the agility to adapt research methods • Data reduction, analysis, and interpretation. • Clear, concise, actionable communication of research to designers and cross-functional audiences. • Ability to zoom in and out - see the minute detail and big picture concurrently.
Minimum Qualifications
Key Qualifications
- 3-5 years research experience: Musculoskeletal, soft tissue, locomotion, exoskeleton biomechanics, and sports biomechanics
- Prior experience working in industry is highly preferred.
- Prior experience working with designers and engineers is highly preferred.
Education & Experience
Master's Degree or PhD in related fields.
Additional Requirements
- Wide range of biomechanics toolboxes: 3D motion capture, inertia measurement unit (IMU),
- instrumented force/pressure measurements, electromyography (EMG), muscle oxygenation,
- indirect calorimetry, musculoskeletal modeling, finite element modeling for soft tissues.
- Software: Matlab, Python, LabView, OpenSim.

Pay & Benefits
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
