We leverage cutting-edge technologies like LLM to empower user-facing features like summarization in messages, mails and Writing Tools. We also work on Visual Search and Multimodal Search to support Visual Intelligence in photos, camera and other apps.

Description

As a staff ML engineer who works at the intersection between software and ML, you are excited to seek and tackle high-impact problems using well-optimized software and deep-learning solutions. You will stay up-to-date with the latest research in LLM, Visual Search and Multi-modal Search and work with a team of highly-qualified app framework and ML specialists to develop innovative ML systems. You'll be involved in all phases of developing the ML platform that powers different use cases, product-oriented ML training as well as model deployment and optimization. We have teams in Cupertino, Seattle and Zurich, and work closely with teams across Apple and across the world. We are looking for experts with great technical skills, a drive for high quality software and the ability to innovate creative solutions. Communicating clearly and having the flexibility to learn new technologies, while continuously developing your skills will be key to your success. You will fit into our teams, be a fantastic collaborator, comfortable with giving and receiving feedback and able to thrive in a dynamic environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional experience in application, framework, or system stack on mobile platforms or embedded systems
  • 3+ years of experience building ML model based products that power user-facing features
  • Experience being a tech lead, and has been successfully leading a team to ship software to users
  • Excellent knowledge and good practical skills in designing software features, architectures or algorithms
  • Strong interpersonal skills able to work independently as well as in a team
  • BS or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Has iOS / MacOS development experience
  • Experience with optimizing performance on resource constrained devices
  • Experience with relevant deep learning software packages (Keras, Tensorflow, PyTorch...)
  • Experience with graphics development: OpenGL, Metal, Vulcan or neural engine integration / optimization
  • Experience with OpenGL and/or OpenCL programming

Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $207,800 and $378,700, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

    Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
