Our team is responsible for developing cutting-edge machine learning architectures for natural language and speech processing, including projects like Apple Intelligence, with a strong emphasis on agentic capabilities, test generation (NLG), and speech generation (TTS). We are looking for exceptional senior research scientist/engineer experienced in design and development of training, adapting and deploying large scale ML models with a focus on natural language understanding, generation, speech and/or multimodal generation. Additionally, you'll advance and apply the latest ML techniques to Apple's virtual assistant and dive into the details to craft the Siri experience for millions of users worldwide.

Description

We are seeking a candidate with a strong track record in applied ML research and development, particularly in natural language processing/generation, speech generation/understanding, and/or multimodal models, to join our cross-functional team focused on advancing capabilities in systems like Siri. We are looking for ML researchers who can envision and implement end-to-end solutions while collaborating with other ML researchers, system engineers, and designers to bring research to production. To succeed in this role, you should be an excellent programmer and creative problem solver who enjoys learning, generating new ideas, improving processes, and contributing to system design. You should also thrive as a team player in a dynamic environment with rapidly changing priorities.
  • 5-7+ years experience in Machine Learning and its application to NLP, NLG or Speech
  • M.S. or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field i.e. mathematics, physics or computer engineering with a focus on computer vision and/or machine learning or comparable professional experience.
  • Hands on experience training LLMs, adapting pre-trained LLMs for downstream tasks & human alignment
  • Experience delivering ML capabilities into great products
  • Proficiency in using ML toolkits, e.g., PyTorch
  • Strong programming skills in Python, C and C++

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in JAX (nice to have)

Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

    Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
