You will be working with a cross-functional team that participates in the full lifecycle of product development from discovery to development to deployment. At Anthology, software engineers will learn to apply their software development expertise as members of a cross-functional team. Our teams usually consist of Product Managers, UX Designers, and Developers of varying interests to create a Full Stack team. Software Engineers learn and practice all aspects of software development including (but not limited to) understanding user feedback, developing the software, CI/CD practices, DevOps, and ongoing maintenance. In this role, learning is primary focused around depth of technical understanding and team practices.
A Staff Software Engineer on a product development team should embrace DevOps and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices and plays a crucial role in orchestrating the seamless integration of software development, product management, and operations. This individual is responsible for designing and implementing advanced automation strategies that streamline the development process, ensuring that code is developed, tested, and deployed rapidly and reliably. With a deep understanding of both the technical and business aspects of the product, the Staff Software Engineer collaborates closely with other developers and managers to create a cohesive environment that fosters innovation and efficiency. They spearhead the development of CI/CD pipelines, automate infrastructure provisioning, monitor system performance, and lead troubleshooting and resolution of production issues. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement, they drive the adoption of best practices in coding, testing, and deployment, thereby enhancing product quality and accelerating time to market.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Designing and implementing solutions for the areas of the application owned by the team, including architecture and infrastructure
- Testing your own code and reviewing the code of others
- Understanding and demonstrating Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices
- Embracing and championing the use of IaC tools (e.g., Terraform) to automate infrastructure provisioning and management
- Implementing security best practices throughout the development and deployment lifecycle
- Taking ownership of the team's product areas running in production
- Resolving production issues and defects for solutions owned by the team
- Ensuring proper team and inter-team communication practices
- Identifying issues with internal team communication practices
- Guiding/contributing to process improvement initiatives on the team
- Leading/participating in solution design on the team
- Helping ensure the team is scoping work properly
- Mentoring team members earlier in their careers
The Candidate:
Required skills/qualifications:
- 8-12 years of relevant experience
- Computer Science/Engineering background or ability to demonstrate a strong technical background
- Fluency in written and spoken English at CEF B2 level or above
- Fluency with server-side technologies such as ASP.Net MVC or Web API
- Fluency with front-end libraries and frameworks such as React
- Fluency with relational and/or NoSQL databases
- Fluency with linting code, creating unit tests, and being an active participant in code reviews
- Desire to work as a member of an inclusive, cross-functional team
Preferred skills/qualifications:
- Experience with .NET and C#
- Experience with Node.js and Typescript
- Experience with Microsoft Azure
- Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code
- Experience with event-driven microservice architectures
