Summary / Role Purpose
The R&D Engineer II will be in an integrated and dynamic Mechanics Business Unit (MBU) product creation team, responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining state of art capabilities in structural Finite Elements and advanced simulation procedures.

The R&D Engineer II contributes to the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the R&D Engineer II will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to accomplish development objectives.
In specific, s/he will work on developing, implementing, and maintaining functionality related to Data Processing Framework for linear structural dynamics, NVH applications and rigid body dynamics. Immediate work will focus on Transfer Path Analysis, ATV and the enhancement of modal superposition techniques.
Projects may span multiple physics/product areas requiring a strong desire to learn new areas on the job in an open, multi-disciplinary, co-located team environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Participates in planning, architecture, and research in DPF and linear dynamics features.
- Performs basic development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of software modules and sub-systems.
- Learns and employs best practices and helps to maintain them through technical reviews and mentoring. Research problems discovered by QA or product support and develop solutions.
- Performs complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products.
- Researches and understands the marketing requirements for the finite element and computational mechanics product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues. Works with strategic customers or proxies to assess needs and develop solutions.
- Works under the general supervision of a development manager
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience
- BS Mechanical, Aeronautical Engineering, or related areas with 5 years' experience, MS with 2 years' experience, or PhD in a related field.
- Commercial experience of software packages with finite element analysis or other numerical analysis software.
- Working experience with software design and development and numerical simulation
- Good knowledge of C++ or Python
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Ph. D. in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering with knowledge in finite element coding and strong backgrounds in structural dynamics and numerical simulations.
- Technical knowledge and commercial experience with object-oriented design, scripting languages, data structures and algorithms.
- Technical knowledge and commercial experience with structural dynamics and acoustics simulations, computer aided design or similar
- Industrial experience in linear dynamics related areas
- Passion for crafting robust and efficient code.
- Understanding of the software development process
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a geographically distributed team.
- Linux experience is desirable.
