You will work in a highly collaborative and dynamic team environment. In this internship, you will support Electronics, Semiconductor & Optics Business Unit. This full-time position starts on Aug 25th, 2025 and concludes on December 5th, 2025. This position is hyrbid from the Ansys Vancouver or Montreal office, student must be willing to work in office.

Responsibilities

In this internship, you will focus on designing, developing, testing and documenting simulation workflows for photonic and optical components and systems in areas such as:

  • Photonic Inverse Design of advanced PIC components
  • Python-based simulation workflows
  • High-performance computing (HPC) for photonic simulation
  • Advanced reduced order or compact models for components in photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and systems
  • Integrations between Ansys Lumerical and other Ansys Optics tools (Ansys Zemax and Ansys Speos)

Minimum qualifications

  • Passion for photonics and software development
  • Pursuing graduate degree in electrical engineering, physics, or related field, with a focus on optics/photonics/electronics
  • Programming experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar languages
  • Experience using Ansys Lumerical tools and/or other optics/photonic simulation tools
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English

Preferred qualifications

  • Design experience for various active and passive photonic components
  • Experience using HPC for simulation, e.g. cloud computing, clusters, etc.
  • Familiarity with reduced order or compact photonic model for circuit and system simulations
  • Experience with optical simulation using ray tracing and/or Fourier optics
  • Experience in PIC design and tape-out using EDA tools (e.g., Klayout, Mentor, Cadence)
  • Knowledge of the photonic/optics industry and ecosystem
