Lead Platform Engineer

Position will be a platform engineer which is part of the Datacenter Engineering Group within Enterprise IT with a focus on the delivery of solutions running across both public (AWS, GCP and Azure) and private cloud environments. This engineer should have advanced experience with DevOps tools such as Ansible, Terraform, python, and Gitlab so they can develop repeatable patterns and solutions. In addition to having a solid infrastructure DevOps foundation this position will also require the engineer to be a scrappy and creative problem solver willing to dive in wherever is needed. This role requires a blend of strong foundational infrastructure knowledge, modern application technologies, DevSecOps mindset, and Site Reliability Engineering skills.

Position Compensation Range:
$125,000.00 - $212,000.00

Pay Rate Type:

Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Analyzes high level business requirements & specifications and converts information into low level architectures.
  • Performs incident triage, including determining scope, urgency, and potential impact. Makes recommendations and build automation that enable expeditious remediation.
  • Proven abilities to learn new technology and processes.
  • Conducts technology evaluations and re-engineering activities to support strategy definition and continuous improvement activities.
  • Provides consistent documentation for design decisions, estimating assumptions, code modules, and performance metrics as required by organization standards.
  • Prepares, leads and/or participates in platform, code, and documentation walkthroughs.
  • Develop predictive models to forecast infrastructure capacity needs based on business expansion and drivers.
  • Collaborates with others regarding effectiveness of systems flow, data usage and manual or automated processes to verify system functionality.
  • Ensures software development meets standards for programming, design, performance, quality, and security. Identifies and recommends areas for improvement in planning, design, development, and testing.
  • Analyze and interpret infrastructure performance data (CPU, Memory, Storage) and correlate it with business data.
  • Building automation for on-prem & cloud environments using tools such as, Terraform & Ansible, and Cloudformation.
  • Facilitate large scale resiliency solutions, data protection and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Understanding and lifecycle management of enterprise operating systems through golden images, patching, and system hardening.
  • Recommend, build and leverage technologies like Google BigQuery, Looker, AWS QuickSight, Datadog, Elastic, PyTorch, and R Studio to create simulations of our core services.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements
  • Significant experience across hyperscale platforms such as VMware, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Extensive System Administration (configuration, installations, patch management, server maintenance, etc.) and Network Foundations (firewalls, proxies, IP management, routing, DNS)
  • Experience with Operating System hardening practices as well as methodologies for templating deployments from a set of standardized images
  • Demonstrated experience establishing, using and supporting integration and communication protocols between applications, databases, and technology platforms.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, micro-services, and similar endpoints so you can configure, extract data and experiment with automation.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of application architecture, design alternatives, and development standards.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating technical information.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing, using and supporting integration and communications technologies between applications, databases and technology platforms.
  • Strong understand of security best practices, secure coding practices, secrets management, certificates and certificate management
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing and estimating project size and work efforts for software solutions, including agile experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: Python, Linux, Shell, Bash or other programming languages.
  • Coordinate tasks with your teammates and self-pilot through each sprint adjusting as necessary and keeping a no ego mentality.
  • Proficiency in Git/Gitlab source code control, branching, bug, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understands resilient system design, high availability, and disaster recovery methodologies to ensure system reliability and business continuity.
  • Familiarity with container platforms, Kubernetes, Openshift platforms.
  • Curiosity, humility and open-mindedness with a deep sense of pride in your work.
