To achieve our vision, we continue to invest in our Data Science & Analytics team to make a difference to our patients and providers. Our Data Science team collaborates closely with Product & Engineering to tackle the most challenging and impactful problems transforming retail pharmacy with a focus on prescription processing efficiency and dispensing accuracy. Data Scientists are responsible for the full life cycle model development of ideation, prototyping, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Your expertise in NLP, reinforcement learning, and large language models will be critical in driving innovation and improving the efficiency and accuracy of our supply chain.

  • Be a thought leader in the ML space and continue to identify opportunities to build intelligence and automate prescription processing while maintaining industry leading patient safety standards
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain statistical and machine learning solutions leveraging NLP, generative AI, and reinforcement learning
  • Push the envelope on our operational efficiency by continually refining and advancing our algorithms and models
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, software engineers, data scientists, and pharmacists to deeply understand Alto’s business needs and create impactful ML applications
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to the development of best practices within the Data Science team.

A Bit About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a quantitative field, such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Accounting, Engineering, or Economics.
  • Five years or more of experience as a Data Scientist or a BA/BS degree in a quantitative field with at least 7 years of experience as a Data Scientist.
  • Demonstrated experience developing machine learning models with business impact, and shipping ML/AI solutions to production.
  • Demonstrated experience with NLP, LLMs, Generative AI, and/or Reinforcement Learning.
  • Strong programming background in Python, high level of proficiency in SQL and Machine Learning (scikit-learn, XGBoost, Keras/Tensorflow) tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to inform and influence a non-technical audience using insights found through complex technical concepts.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a strong bias toward actionable insights; love finding insights and getting others to act on them.
  • Expertise using project management fundamentals and applying data-based prioritization and trade-off decision making

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • PhD in a quantitative field, such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Accounting, Engineering, or EconomicsExperience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industry
  • Experience with supply chain optimization, marketplaces, or logistics.
  • Proficiency in using cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure leveraging toolkits such as Kubeflow

Additional Physical Job Requirements

  • Reading English, comprehending, and following simple oral and written instructions. 
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.  Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. 
  • Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound. 
  • Frequent repeating motions required to operate a computer or phone that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Environmental Conditions: occasional exposure to low temperatures or high temperatures, outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind, and noisy environments.
  • Physical Activities: 
    • Occasionally ascending or descending stairs, ramps and the like.
    • Moving about to accomplish tasks and/or moving from one worksite to another. 
    • Adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions. 
    • Operating motor vehicles.
    • Occasional sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing/driving/flying

Salary Range: $157,600- $197,000 

Commission Eligible: No

Equity Eligible: Yes

Travel: Yes - Required up to 10% of the time  

Location Requirement: Employment at Alto is limited to individuals residing in the following states: California, Connecticut, Colorado, Florida, Nevada, Illinois, New York, Kansas, Texas, Maryland, Washington (WA), Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wisconsin.
