Job description:
Our team is growing and we are actively looking to hire a Senior Software Developer (Guidewire Digital Portals)!
Accountabilities:
1. Gathering/Analyzing Requirements - 20%
- Evalutes detailed busines, functional, and high- and low-level requriements (e.g. recovery, security, audit, etc.) in partnership with the Product Owner while collaborating on user stories to ensure solutions fully address end-user needs defined in business requirements.
- Translates user-centric software requirements into sustainable working solutions that operate within existing application frameworks.
- Assesses detailed product or system changes and new products in development.
- Participates in Scrum ceremonies to provide input, ensurea clear understanding of epics and user stories; plans sprints and commits to sprint goals by adhering to the definition of done (DoD); identifies improvement opportunities and implements actionable items for subsequent sprints.
- Documents and demonstrates solutions (e.g. systems flow, data usage, work processes, etc.) and investigates problem areas in collaboration with client users and stakeholders.
2. Development, Testing, and Troubleshooting - 55%
- Designs detailed architectural components aligned with high-level solution architecture.
- Develops software solutions using the acceptance criteria of user stories based on information needs (e.g. system flow, data usage, work processes, etc.).
- Develops code for software modules of medium scope and complexity based on high-level architectural design that follows documentation and development and quality standards.
- Follows development practices (e.g. test-driven code (TDD), conducting periodic code reviews, etc.).
- Schedules and executes design/code reviews to provide feedback and recommend solutions to team members.
- Implements new products and applications and iterates existing products in close collaboration with Quality Engineering, Technology Architecture, and other members of the sofwtare development team.
- Follows the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and the Agile framework and practices that adhere to legal and regulatory requirements (e.g. Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), PCI, etc.).
- Participates in and provides feedback for design reviews and retrospectives.
- Participates in product scoping, discovery, and framing by providing technical input and translating desired user features into system designs.
- Evaluates, maintains, and improves the performance of existing software.
3. Release & Change Management and Troubleshooting - 15%
- Participates in incident management, root cause analysis, and problem records resolution in compliance with defined service level agreements (SLAs).
- Acts as the Product team's representative when attending Change Advisory Board (CAB) meetings.
- Assists with continuous improvement (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) pipelines and practices.
- Creates change tickets to document risk impact, rollbacks, and plan implementation.
4. Practice Maturation - 10%
- Follows secure application development practices aligned with industry and Allstate standards.
- Participates in knowledge sharing to contribute to a wider community of practice.Remains abreast of development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment to recommend solutions aligned with current standards and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
- Guidewire Certification
- Minimum : Developer Associate
- Ideal : Enterprise Engage Specialists ( xCenter/Integration Developer Specialist)
- Strong knowledge of Guidewire Portal and 3+ years of hands on experience in at least one of the Guidewire Digital Portals (CustomerEngage / ProducerEngage / ServiceRepEngage / Vendor Engage / Enterprise Engage). ProducerEngage is preferred.
- Skills: ReactJS, Jutro Framework, Guidewire Integration with EDGE Framework.
- Implement and style user interfaces with HTML, CSS5, and JavaScript (ES5 and above).
- Experience with other front-end frameworks and libraries is a plus.
- Design and implement solutions involving Edge handlers to enhance front-end performance and security.
- Integrate front-end interfaces with JSON RPC/SOAP/REST services and ensure seamless functionality.
- Ensure the technical feasibility of UI designs and optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
- Hands on experience in at least one of the Guidewire products (ClaimCenter/ PolicyCenter/ BillingCenter) with strong knowledge in Gosu scripting.
- Good knowledge in Webservices, XML, REST APIs etc.
- Experience working with code repositories such as SVN, GIT or Bitbucket
- Understanding of devops and build/deployment processes
- Experience developing responsive web front-end / single-page applications using modular JavaScript and apps targeted for mobile devices.
- Knowledge of secure application development and OWASP vulnerabilities would be beneficial.
- Experience in Agile SCRUM methodology.
- Insurance domain knowledge.
- Project coordination, organizational, prioritization, and time management skills with attention to detail.
- Data visualization tools to prepare flow charts, models, and other documentation used in leadership decision-making (e.g. Visio).
- Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Bonus qualification:
- Knowledge of microservices and application programming interfaces (APIs) would be assets.
- Knowledge of object-oriented design principles would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of common design patterns, their purpose, and when and how they are applied to commonly encountered design problems would be an asset.
- Experience with automated testing and monitoring approaches and tools is preferred.
