Job Description
Provides a wide range of support to members of department with minimal supervision; gathers information for analysis; analyzes data and information; collects, disseminates, and tracks documents and information; researches, analyzes, and summarizes relevant issues; manages new matters; ensures accurate and timely information; drafts certain documents and communications; and obtains necessary approvals and signatures; conducts basic legal research; support court filings ensuring deadlines are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage intake of new matters; enter new matter data and upload new documents
  • Gather matter related documents for the lawyer to analyze
  • Engage in pro-active case handling practices and resolve assigned cases appropriately
  • Manage day to day voluminous files and ensure court filing deadlines are met
  • Prepare pleadings, affidavits of documents, and motion records
  • Prepare synopses of transcripts, medical documentation, economic loss documentation, productions, and case development
  • Review and prepare synopses of discovery transcripts, prepare undertakings and refusals chart listing undertakings and refusals, and ensure compliance of undertakings
  • Experienced knowledge of the laws, Rules of Civil Procedure, Simplified Rules, Case Management Rules
  • All aspects of trial preparation including prepare detailed witness list and anticipated evidence, prepare and serve Summons to Witness, Offers to Settle, Notices of Intention under the Evidence Act, and compile Trial Briefs
  • Summarize relevant legal and business issues and update lawyer
  • Conduct, summarize, and analyze basic research, including gathering facts

Education

  • 4 year Bachelors Degree (Preferred)
  • accredited law clerk (Preferred)

Experience

  • 5-10 years' experience as a law clerk

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This job does not have supervisory duties.

Education & Experience (in lieu)

  • In lieu of the above education requirements, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
