Job Description
The Intermediate Underwriter provides underwriting support and direction to sales management and their marketing forces for the purpose of improving growth and profit opportunities for new and in-force commercial lines of insurance within assigned territories. The Intermediate Underwriter builds and maintains agency relationships for the common purpose of providing extraordinary customer relationships, while profitably growing a multi-line book of business. The Intermediate Underwriter performs in a technical capacity, participates in quality reviews, problem solving, and other discussions, with appropriate input for solution-oriented goals

Key Responsibilities
- File documentation is clear and within Best Practice adopted by organization
- Works with team to review policies, and procedures
- Answers difficult inquiries regarding interpretation of policy, procedures, rules and regulations
- Effectively communicates additional information needs, analysis process within eligibility guidelines, and decisions
- Work is within set parameters of quality and production standards, as applicable, and within agreed upon Service Level Agreements and regulations
- Assesses accuracy of data, considers alternative options, and prepares recommendations on referral files outside of authority
- Reviews, underwrites, and prepares new business, endorsements, and renewals within guidelines for position
Experience
- Post-secondary education and completion of CIP designation is preferred
- 3-5 years of Underwriting experience is preferred
- Experience in the non-standard auto market as well as experience in a broker office would be an asset
- Familiarity with Pembridge products and services would be considered an asset
- Knowledge of the regional insurance market and the broker within the market is considered an asset
- Strong negotiation skills, customer service skills and the ability and willingness to learn
- Ability to collaborate with peers and subordinates to reach goals as well as the ability to work well independently
