Your role in the team
The Lead Digital Product Manager (Lead DPM) is an experienced practitioner, responsible for providing strategic context and leading the discovery, delivery and execution of the Product Strategy, with outcome-based delivery at the core, for one or more products in Allstate.The Lead Digital Product Manager is a player-coach for Digital Product Managers, supporting them in establishing and refining the strategic product vision, proactively pursuing product discovery, clarifying outcomes, defining key results, managing the backlog and using metrics and indicators to measure success and maximize the value provided by their product throughout the Product Lifecycle

The Digital Product Manager (DPM) is the CEO of their product. They are responsible for partnering with Business Architects and other key stakeholders to understand the problems their product is solving, defining the product strategy, driving discovery and leading the delivery and realization of value. The Digital Product Manager enables the Digital Product Team to focus on the most important things first, through a balanced and well-groomed backlog, so they can quickly test hypotheses with small, incremental delivery cycles to manage risk and adapt where necessary to drive to value. They also identify assumptions and validate those assumptions using product discovery techniques, and work closely with key stakeholders and partners, to ensure the successful definition and execution of go-to market and communications strategies for their products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Defining or refining the Product Strategy and using it to define outcomes (Objective & Key results) for the Digital Product Team.
  • Engage in discovery/test & learn activities to quickly validate assumptions and product direction.
  • Working with key stakeholders and the Digital Product Team to identify and measure key metrics and indicators of team health or performance and product success; using these metrics to continuously identify opportunities for improvements throughout the Product lifecycle.
  • Managing a backlog, with near term commitments and longer-term plans of intent, enabling the team to focus on the most important things first and driving small, incremental releases that allow the team to quickly validate hypotheses, manage risk and realize value.
  • Balancing value-based features on the backlog with KTLO and continuous refactor of tech debt activities over time.
  • Investing significant time with current and potential customers to understand their needs and habits.
  • Use customer feedback, detailed market analysis, and data gathering to validate and enhance the product strategy over time, including a planned shut down when a product no longer offers value.

Additional Responsibilities - Lead DPM

  • Create, drive and support the Digital Product Managers to execute product strategy for one or more products in our growing digital product portfolio.
  • Partner with Leads across the organization on common or shared objectives to maximize value realized.
  • Coach and mentor members of the team as well as members of the cross-functional development organization on how to collaborate and conduct idea generation, consumer research, test design and execution, measurement, product implementation, customer interactions and roll out.

Essential Skills:

  • A minimum of 3 (DPM) or 5 (Lead DPM) years' experience conducting product scoping, discovery and framing and owning and managing a backlog for a Digital Product Team.
  • Experience in communicating complex and innovative concepts to product development teams with proven experience in data-driven decision making.
  • Experience working in a technology development environment.
  • Experience at breaking down work for iterative and incremental delivery.
  • Effective at stakeholder management and transparent communication.
  • Hands on experience and accountability architecting, designing, implementing, and delivering large scale distributed systems and/or applications for the cloud.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in application and platform modernization.
