Who We Are
Seeking shipboard alteration installer marine welder for fleet modernization. The selected candidate will be supporting our Systems Integrations department working on active class submarines, surface ships, and shore based communication facilities using various mechanical tools to install, upgrade and remove industrial equipment to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization on various contracts such as Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Naval Information Warfare Systems Command and Naval Surface Warfare Center. Duties will include: Applies appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weld-able materials. Works from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts or work orders. Lays out and marks points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates. Positions pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools. May inspect completed work for conformance to specifications Make recommendations for improvements or modifications to correct problems. Provide operation/maintenance instruction to customer personnel. Assist engineering staff in determining and solving equipment design problems. Perform preventative maintenance. May provide work leadership to less-experienced technicians. Perform a variety of general manual labor tasks including, but not limited to, lifting and moving materials, loading and unloading vehicles, digging and refilling holes, and other activities in a helping or assisting mode. May perform simple repairs on machinery or minor repairs to buildings. Transports materials, tools, and equipment to and within work sites as required. Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned. Participate in special projects as required. Selected candidate will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases located around or out of the country when not assigned to a local task. Per Diem available based on location when on travel, travel and lodging expenses are covered by the company. Must be fully COVID-19 immunized.

What You Will Do
Master understanding of production and processes. Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and ability to provide work direction to others. May provide direction and lead others. May manage one or more multiple jobs. Completes comprehension of specialty trades functions and tools. Performs a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks. Develops and uses technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports. Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management. May perform quality inspections on finished product. Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.
What You Must Have
- Must have an active DOD Secret clearance.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DBIDS/CAC badge.
- Must have current or prior certified Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)/Stick, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)/TIG, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)/MIG qualification certificates applicable with MIL-STD-248.
- Must have experience mirror welding.
- Must have formal weld and/or brazing training and/or combination piping and plate welding qualifications.
- Must be able to work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts or work orders as well as written and verbal instruction.
- Must be capable of using various electrical/electronic measuring instruments.
- Must have a High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience.
- Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
- Must be fully COVID-19 immunized.
Preferred Bonus Points ...
- Current welding qualification certificates applicable with MIL-STD-248 is preferred.
- Current OSHA 10 Maritime Certificate preferred.
- Current Shipyard Competent Person Certification preferred.
- Prefer technical/professional certifications.
- Prior AIT or active duty experience on current active class submarines is preferred.
- Prior Submarine Radio Room & C4I experience preferred.
- Candidates possessing a current U.S. Travel passport are preferred.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
