We have an exciting oppotunity to join our growing team at the Newport News Shipyard! As a Tradesperson 1, you will perform routine work technical trades duties to include support of technical repairs and installations. Work from blueprints and tech manuals. Work assigned is typical of standard work assignments common to specialty trades. Applies job skills and company policies to complete a wide range of tasks that vary based on job, contract, customer requirements, specifications, etc. Performs semi-skilled and unskilled laboring duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of systems and equipment.

What You Will Do
- Install, operate, maintain, repair and modify equipment.
- Perform a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations.
- Analyze and evaluates products and related performance.
- Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions to eliminate problem in minimum time.
- Install, upgrade and remove products ensuring coordinative engineering field change.
- Maintain effective customer communications and relations.
- May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.
- Apply understanding of production and processes to assignments.
- Perform a variety of complicated tasks.
- May assist in the development and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.
- Perform duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment
What You Must Have
- High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 1 year of related experience. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
- A new Federal Executive Order requires that employees of Federal contractors and subcontractors be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by December 8, 2021. - Be willing to lean to interpret blueprints and drawings.
- Be willing to lean to identify system and component location based on ships structure.
- Must have a proficient use of layout tools.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
