Job Description

This position is for a project supporting the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), specifically Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Strategic Materials. The project is focused on increasing and securing supplies of raw materials, including rare earths and metals for DoD and essential civilian applications. The team member will provide technical, analytical, business, and program manager support to the Government customer running various programs to increase access to supplies. We are looking for a person with industry experience processing metals and understanding the environment of standing up processing capabilities along various nodes in the value chain.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direction of a government representative the team member executes tasks both collaboratively and independently. The team members will research and provide data, analyze existing data, and weigh in on discussions about the risks to a raw material supply chain, the options for mitigating that risk. The Team member will help the Government execute the risk mitigation strategy. We are looking for an engineer or scientist with hands on experience in the metals or minerals industry. The majority of tasking will be oriented towards solving rare earth industry challenges, but as the team member's experience allows, there will be tasking related to other raw materials. There will be the opportunity to interface with other Government agencies in the development and execution of a risk mitigation strategy. There will be the requirement to interface with industry to research information and gauge industry's reaction to risks and risk mitigation strategies.

LOCATION

Based on qualifications, the Team Member will have the option to be located at an Alion office in Alexandria, VA or work 100% remotely. The primary customer is located in Fort Belvoir, VA and the bulk of the team is located in Alexandria, VA. If not co-located, the team member must be willing to travel for periodic team and customer interactions.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience or Master's degree with 6+ years of experience. Preference for experience processing metals and minerals. Significant preference for experience processing rare earths and interacting with the rare earth industry.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

Microsoft Office Proficient

The ability to professionally interact with members of Government, industry, and academia.

Communication—both speaking and writing.

Ability to document research and conclusions in an effective manner.

Ability to collaborate with other team members to complete project goals.

Ability to independently research and analyze supply chain risks and mitigations.

Ability to protect sensitive and proprietary information.
