Job Description

Alion Science and Technology is looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of a Technical Project Engineer Lead for Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC) Program support. This person will interact directly with customers, prime contractor and lead an integrated project team of part time Airworthiness and System Engineering SMEs to complete projects. The focus of this position is leading acquisition, airworthiness, and system certification related projects in support of the SAOC RFP, source selection, engineering manufacturing development, test and evaluation, and production/deployment of the E-4B replacement aircraft (SAOC). In addition, responsibilities include:

  • Act as a professional acquisition advisor to the program office
  • Experience with USAF and FAA airworthiness certification requirements, processes and products
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Determining project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements; assigning personnel to phases and elements
  • Determining project schedule by consulting with subject matter experts; studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements
  • Maintaining project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems
  • Preparing project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions
  • Defining, generating, and reviewing project requirements
  • Monitoring projects to ensure work scope, schedule, and budget are well defined and maintained
  • Performing risk management to minimize project risks
  • Experience adapting project management processes to improve efficiency
  • Meeting budgetary objectives and making adjustments to project constraints based on Time and Material (T&M) analysis
  • Ensuring that project management and organizational processes are followed
  • Fostering future work with the prime contractor
  • Basic Qualifications
  • B.S./B.A. and 25+ years or, M.S./M.A. and 15+ years of USAF engineering experience
  • In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience
  • Experience working in a government contracting environment
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and driven desire to succeed with minimal direction
  • Ability to work both in a team and individually
  • Residence near Hanscom AFB/Boston MA, or Dayton/WPAFB, OH
  • Willing to travel 4 to 6X/year
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with complex ACAT I programs
  • USAF Endorsed Airworthiness SME
  • DAU Level 3 Systems Engineering Certification
  • Experience as an USAF Chief/Lead Engineer of an aircraft program
  • Experience working in both traditional Waterfall and Agile environments
  • Digital Engineering/Acquisition familiarity
  • PFR Endorsement/SEEK EAGLE/NNMSB/LSSRB/Aerial Refueling/CNS/ATM/ AIMS/Spectrum Certification experience
  • Nuclear Hardening experience
  • Active TS/SCI or SAP Clearance

  • Security Clearance: Secret
