Job Description

As a Senior Physicist, Physicist or Senior Engineer provide dedicated support to the Naval Research Laboratory, Plasma Physics Division, Pulsed Power Physics Branch (Code 6770). The qualified candidate provides strong technical and programmatic functions by supporting the Code 6770 Branch Head and Principal Investigators in planning, monitoring, and integrating technical activities, with a strong emphasis on budget planning and execution; procurement; management and reporting; and safety, environmental, and radiation protection policy compliance. Primary duties include:

  • Support Principal Investigators in planning, monitoring, and integrating program plans and schedules, including safety, environmental, and radiation protection policy compliance
  • Support Principal Investigators in developing and coordinating spend plans, budgets, long-lead procurements, and financial work products for submission
  • Provide assistance/expertise in conducting market research, drafting procurement documentation, and supporting ongoing procurement activities through completion
  • Assist the Branch Head and PIs to integrate Code 6770 programs within and across the Branch, identifying program synergies where appropriate
  • Assist the Branch Head and PIs to prepare monthly and annual reports of research progress for submission to sponsors
  • Assist in developing and implementing Code 6770 short- and long-term goals
  • Review, analyze, research and present recommendations for improving and streamlining Code 6770 business processes; where possible and appropriate, leverage best practices within other Code 6000 Branches and Divisions
  • Performs research in plasma physics, pulsed power, radiation diagnostics, experimental data analysis, or computational physics

Qualifications:

All personnel must only be citizens of the United States (dual citizenship is not allowed) and be able to acquire a DOD Top Secret clearance to perform work on this contract.

Education & Experience:
  • Minimum BS in physics, engineering physics, electrical engineering, nuclear engineering, or related field with 4 years' experience with DoD programs; or MS or PHD in physics, engineering physics, electrical engineering, nuclear engineering, or related field
  • Experience with pulsed power driven nuclear weapons effects simulators is preferable
  • Knowledge of Federal Government Acquisition and Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) desired
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent desired
  • Proven analytical skills and expertise
  • Ability to collaborate across a diverse workforce to achieve objectives
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop technical reports and presentations


This position supports a U.S. Government contract; per the Executive Order 14042 issued on September 9, 2021, personnel must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to fill this role.
