Job Description
Commonwealth Technology Innovations, an Huntington Ingalls Industries company, is an R&D firm with in-house manufacturing capabilities for prototype and low volume production. As part of its manufacturing work, CTI applies finishes including paint, powder coating, stain and clear finishes to a variety of products. This is very high-end work with extremely careful color-matching and above automotive-level quality. The candidate for the position must have a good knowledge of finishing/painting of metal and composite materials. This is a Commonwealth of Virginia approved apprentice program.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Finisher in applying finishes to CTI Products.
- Learning all aspects of the Finishing/painting apprentice program.
- Learn the proper use of finishing equipment and finishing area including paint booth.
- Ability to perform detailed sanding processes and other surface preparation.
- Understand how to properly use all related respirator equipment.
- Ability to identify color variances.
- Learn to estimate quantities of materials required
- Read and interpret work instructions.
- Learn and follow all safety procedures and policies required to fulfill duties.
- Learn Preventative Maintenance procedures on equipment.
- Keep tools and finishing equipment clean and well maintained and work area orderly.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Maintain no less than a "B" average on all academic courses required by the apprentice program.
- Maintain accurate time keeping for the Apprenticeship log book.
- Perform duties in accordance with company policies.
- Take a proactive approach to continuous improvement including productivity, quality, safety

May require occasional work at our facility in Sterling, VA.
Candidates who enter this program without a Secret Security clearance will work on electromechanical assembly and other duties until they attain a Secret clearance.
Job Requirements:
- US Citizenship and and ability to obtain Secret clearance
- Good basic math skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Good hand eye coordination
- Good color matching skills
- Ability to do multi-step processes
- Able to lift 50 lbs. and stand for 8 hrs.
- Willingness to learn and ability to work under close supervision and as part of a team
- Strong Work ethic
- Ability to pass respirator training and fit test
- Ability to listen and communicate with others
- Organized
