Position Summary
Alion/Huntington Ingalls Industries is seeking a Operational Research Analyst in support of United States INDOPACOM operations. Specifically, the candidate will support the Operational Research Team in conducting quantitative and qualitative operational research. The research team will utilize the scientific method to identify potential improvements to U.S. plans and policies. The team will develop realistic operational scenarios, support high-fidelity, campaign-level modeling and simulation (M&S), lead seminars with subject matter experts and military planners, utilize various analytical methods to produce in-depth findings, and present these findings to high-level stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities
The candidate will support the Principal Operational Research Analyst in:
- Mining data for utilization by M&S subject matter experts
- Designing research using the Scientific Method
- Developing realistic operational scenarios on which to base research
- Supporting and utilizing quantitative research by M&S subject matter experts
- Conducting qualitative research using the Socratic Method with a variety of subject matter experts
- Participating in analysis to identify potential improvements in U.S. plans and policies
- Presenting findings to a variety of planners and senior leaders
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Required: Aptitude for innovation and creative problem solving
- Required: Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Required: Ability to present highly-complex material to senior leaders and subject matter experts
- Desired: Graduation from Service Advanced Studies Group School (e.g. SAMS, SAW, MAWS, SAASS, JAWS)
- Desired: Operational research experience
- Desired: Familiarity with research methodologies such as the Scientific Method and Socratic Method
- Desired: Experience utilizing Modeling, Simulation & Analysis (MS&A) system outputs
- Desired: War gaming experience at the campaign/theater-strategic level
- Desired: Familiarity with Behavioral Science-related fields (e.g. Decision Theory, Behavioral Economics, etc.)
Education and Experience
- Extensive experience in military joint operational planning at the campaign and/or theater-strategic level
- Extensive experience in military operations and/or operational planning in the INDOPACOM Theater
- B.S. degree or higher in Operational Research, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Applied Math, or other relevant field (MS or PhD highly desirable)
Other Requirements
US Citizenship and a Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility is required at employment. A candidate with an active TS/SCI is highly desirable.
