Job Description

HII-TSD is currently seeking a highly self-motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our Tactical Sensor Systems team in Syracuse, NY. We are looking for a candidate who can make an immediate impact as part of the research and development, assembly, and manufacturing team. In this role, you will work with a group of highly-skilled engineers and support personnel to design, debug, develop and productize complex electro-mechanical devices for military applications. You will have the ability to bring additional depth and expertise to our rapid prototyping capabilities.

The Mechanical Engineer responsibilities may include design and development of complex electro-mechanical products, Structural Engineering Finite Element Analysis, modeling and simulation of concept designs, interfacing with external vendors and internal fabrication, creation of technical data package, developing and executing product testing and integration plans for new or updated products. Characteristics of a successful candidate include attention to detail, creativity, focus on customer expectation, willingness to work outside comfort-zone, effective written and presentation skills.

Works closely with entry and mid-level engineers, mentors, and develops growth within the team. Works autonomously with minimal direction. May provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in the area of mechanical design, environmental analysis, requirements flow-down, concept creation, rapid-prototyping, and producibility analysis. Works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge. Has independent interaction with customers and provides input to project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and 15 years of experience

Skilled performing Structural Engineering Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using tools such as Ansys Mechanical, including thermal, shock, vibration, and yield margin analysis. Ability to apply learned experience to perform optimizations and "what if" scenarios.

Skilled in rapid prototyping and modeling and simulation tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD. Ability to perform ECAD-MCAD modeling of mechanical and electrical designs.

Experience with generating system-level requirements, requirements flow-down from system to sub-system, generating test plan and procedures, identifying verification criteria, documenting issues, and performing root-cause analysis

Experience analyzing complex functions, procedures, and problems to find creative, logical and effective solutions.

Ability to provide task break-down, duration estimates, project milestones during project planning. Ability to provide inputs to technical leads and project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables during program execution.

This position supports a U.S. Government contract; per the Executive Order 14042 issued on September 9, 2021, personnel must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to fill this role.

Desired Skills:

Experience interfacing with end customers.

Experience with transition of products from concepts to prototypes to production.

Experience mentoring less-experience engineers by teaching tools, techniques, and processes.
