Job Description
Who We Are

Seeking shipboard alteration installer marine shipfitter/pipefitter mechanic for fleet modernization. The selected candidate will be supporting our Systems Integrations department working on active class submarines, surface ships, and shore based communication facilities using various mechanical tools with the proper placement and fitting into place structural piping items install, upgrade and remove industrial equipment to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization on various contracts such as Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Naval Information Warfare Systems Command and Naval Surface Warfare Center. Duties will include: Appling basic pipefitting processes to join, surface, fabricate, repair, or replace piping systems (steel, cuni, etc.). Install, maintain, repair, overhaul, troubleshoot, modify, construct and test various types of industrial mechanical, electrical and/or electronic equipment and related devices. Works from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, or work orders. Uses measuring tools and related equipment to target and fit piping. Sil-brazes cuni pipe. May inspect completed work for conformance to specifications. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Apply technical knowledge of shipfitting principles in order to put equipment in operational condition and solve complex problems. Make recommendations for improvements or modifications to correct problems. Provide operation/maintenance instruction to customer personnel. Assist engineering staff in determining and solving equipment design problems. Perform preventative maintenance. May provide work leadership to less-experienced technicians. Perform a variety of general manual labor tasks including, but not limited to, lifting and moving materials, loading and unloading vehicles, digging and refilling holes, and other activities in a helping or assisting mode. May perform simple repairs on machinery or minor repairs to buildings. Transports materials, tools, and equipment to and within work sites as required. Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned. Participate in special projects as required. Selected candidate will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases located around or out of the country when not assigned to a local task. Per Diem available based on location when on travel, travel and lodging expenses are covered by the company. Must be fully COVID-19 immunized.

What You Will Do
Master understanding of production and processes. Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and ability to provide work direction to others. May provide direction and lead others. May manage one or more multiple jobs. Completes comprehension of specialty trades functions and tools. Performs a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks. Develops and uses technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports. Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management. May perform quality inspections on finished product. Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.

What You Must Have
  • Must have an active DOD Secret clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DBIDS/CAC badge.
  • Must have direct experience with mechanical applications on industrial equipment.
  • Must be capable and have knowledge of using various mechanical industrial tools such as precision measuring instruments, minor rigging equipment, portable power units and mechanical fastening devices.
  • Must be able to interpret blueprints and drawings.
  • Must be able to identify location based on ships structure.
  • Must be proficient with standard shipboard fitting procedures: Carbon arc, plasma cutting, OXY/ACET torch.
  • Must have a proficient use of layout tools.
  • Must have a High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Must be fully COVID-19 immunized.


Preferred: Bonus Points ..
  • Experience installing and assembling electronic equipment cabinets associated with C4ISR and/or C5ISR is preferred.
  • Prior Submarine Radio Room & C4I experience preferred.
  • Prior AIT or active duty experience on current active class submarines is preferred.
  • Prior Submarine Radio Room & C4I experience preferred.
  • Current OSHA 10 Maritime Certificate preferred. C
  • urrent Shipyard Competent Person Certification preferred.
  • Prefer technical/professional certifications.
  • Experience with proper placement and fitting into place structural piping items is preferred.
  • Proficiency with standard pipe fitting procedures including P-1 High energy systems.
  • Proficiency with Lock-ring, silver braze (Grade III, IV, V) is preferred.
  • Candidates possessing a current U.S. Travel passport are preferred.


Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
