Job Description

Position Summary

This position provides Electrical Test Technician support to the US Army's Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) Electrical Component Laboratory (ECL).

Job Duties:

  • Coordinate with Test Engineers, to assure test plan is feasible and laboratory testing facility can accommodate the testing required
  • Maintain a schedule and execute equipment preventative maintenance to ensure equipment readiness for project execution
  • Maintain a schedule and execute equipment corrective maintenance to ensure equipment readiness for project execution
  • Ensure equipment is safe to operate, with documented work instructions and safety operating procedures
  • Design, develop, fabricate, set up, operate, maintain and modify complex laboratory apparatus used to collect, measure, and record data associated with the testing of vehicle systems, subsystems, or components
  • Monitor tests in progress by instrumentation or computer readouts/displays. When problems arise, select approach to problems and approve on-the-spot adaptations and takes immediate necessary action during course of test to attain primary objectives.
  • Shipping and receiving for laboratory related items
  • Ensure reasonable level of stock for consumable goods
  • Laboratory housekeeping
  • Comply with the EMS ISO 14001 standard
  • Comply with the ISO 17025 Requirements
  • Initiate calibration schedules for test systems (Cal POC)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Assigned Tasks by Test Engineer
  • Engage Test Engineer and develop plan for cell setup schedule
  • Technical requirements (fixtures/instrumentation/system modifications)
  • Maintain test system calibration, spares, rebuilds, and correctivy

  • Provide input into Lab improvement and upgrades, replacement of Equipment, process or procedure improvements

  • Daily/Weekly report updates to Customer
  • Work in Electric Component Laboratory (ECL):
  • Support, and maintain test equipment and stations, including preventive maintenance (PM) activities.
  • Experience in the proper use of shop and installation procedures. Build test fixtures to support test projects
  • Experience in dynamometer, mechanical, electrical, hybrid, electrification, and instrumentation.
  • Component cooling system design, fabrication, instrumentation, and operation
  • Low voltage communication and control cable requirements, design and fabrication
  • Supports activities related to lab operations: calibration, maintenance, and housekeeping
  • Experience with test setup, operate, and tear down for hybrid electric vehicle test components in a test cell with DE3 or Test Engineer support.
  • Gather test data generated during testing and provide to Test Engineer, assemble pictures, checklists, inspection reports
  • Lab gatekeeper, monitor outside personnel during Lab walkthroughs or testing, ensure outside personnel are in compliance with safety rules.
  • Train on lab systems and operations to work with supervision
  • Physically able to periodically lift weights of up to 40 lbs (OSHA limit is 50 lb)
  • Select appropriate test equipment and configure it based on test specifications
  • Comply in accordance to ISO 17025
  • National Instruments data acquisition hardware and software such as Flexlogger and LabView
  • PC hardware, software and networking infrastructure integration with lab equipment.
  • Power measurement hardware , software, installation, instrumentation and operation
  • Able to read blueprints, schematic diagrams and other specifications.
  • Perform high voltage electrical repairs. Complex troubleshooting equipment up to 600V.
  • Dynamometer drive configuration and operation
  • Instrument power measurement equipment on high voltage component and perform dynamometer tests.
  • High voltage cable requirements, fabrication and instrumentation
  • Perform characterization testing and troubleshooting on high voltage high power components: Advance electric machine, inverter, DC-DC converter, and Alternator
  • Responsible for equipment calibration requirements per LQMS and ISO 17025 lab certification process. Recommend/select lab instruments for purchasing, maintain, and calibrate.

Qualifications:
  • Experience with set up, configure, and operate power analyzers which measure parameters including: voltage, current, mean, and RMS parameters, motor parameters, harmonics, etc.
  • Experience using electronic troubleshooting tools (oscilloscope, function generator, DMM, etc.)
  • The candidate must be able to maintain and hold a SECRET clearance
  • Work with Test Engineer to evaluate, process, and implement Lab Improvement for equipment, procedures, and test execution
  • High School level and advance traning plus 2-3 years experience
