As a Senior Scientist will be responsible for executing research plan and for hands-on executing polymer material synthesis and process development independently for the next generation of implantable materials. Key areas of interest include exploring polymeric materials with excellent shape memory properties with potentials for interaction with light, laser, others such as magnetic field etc. The role requires independent bench work once the directions are set, material testing, and data analysis to support new product development initiatives. Conduct experiments in shape memory polymers, including gel polymers, with built-in functionalities which can be potentially interactive with external stimuli, such as light, laser, and other forms of energy.
  • Provides technical or professional advice to lower-level chemists when necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to evaluate novel shape memory materials by prototyping into intraocular lenses (IOLs), testing, and data collection/analysis.
  • Conduct laboratory bench experiments in validating or invalidating hypothesis for further property improvement for implant materials.
  • May contribute ideas and/or potential innovations which can impact the direction of the project and potentially the future portfolio of the R&D pipeline.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior team members, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence in polymer science.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in-writing, with internal stakeholders and external partners to advance project objectives and achieve business goals.
  • Assist in developing and managing an external network of research partners and collaborators to complement internal competencies.
What You'll Bring to Alcon:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
  • 2 Years of Relevant Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD
  • Experience with Polymer Chemistry
