The purpose for this position is to provide metrology support for tooling and optical tooling for new and existing products with some design and fabrication related support. In addition, this position is tasked to resolve the processing problems associated with tool manufacturing for our advanced designs. This position works with cross-functional teams within development to provide mechanical design support.

We foster an inclusive culture and are looking for diverse, talented people to join Alcon. As a Principal Engineer I supporting the Tooling Metrology Engineering Team, in Duluth, GA, a typical day will include:
  • Responsible to support and maintain metrology equipment used for all general machining and optical tooling fabrication. This includes CMM, Vision systems, optical and laser scanning, microscopes etc.
  • Maintain GxP quality requirements for laboratory and measurement operations
  • Provides support for fabrication processes for ultra-precision CNC machining directly supporting Vision Care development programs
  • Assist with mechanical design and CAD modelling support for various teams within Vision Care development
  • Works closely with other engineers for developing, implementing and resolving general machining and optical fabrication processing problems
  • Responsible for coordinating, maintaining and improving flow of existing tooling metrology processes.
  • Works closely with Lens Metrology group to ensure design targets are met.
  • Ability to operate a variety of metrology equipment used in the tooling fabrication and release processes
  • Ability to develop and validate new measurement methods for all processes in development
  • Ability to work with optical tooling personnel and cross-function teams to deliver on time on all assignments
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+0 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • 5 Years of Relevant Experience
  • Work hours:40 hours
  • Travel:5%
  • Relocation:Yes

Preferred Experience:
  • Knowledge of a variety of metrology instruments including CMM scanning devices. Optical metrology knowledge including interferometry and aspheric surface characterization is a plus.
  • Hands-on CNC- Ultra-precision optical fabrication (symmetrical and non-symmetrical) by turning and/or grinding is a plus.
