As a Metrology Engineer you will be trusted to conduct metrology method development and support new product development for medical device products. Investigates and evaluates existing technology and design new instruments, methodology, or processes as needed for medical device development. Conducts and provides technical direction to one or more projects where the complexity of technical problems involved requires the application of advanced knowledge of optical and ophthalmic devices. - Lead metrology development projects, including new instrumentation and methods.
- Provides technical advice and recommendations to influence internal and/or external contacts.
- Survey relevant technical fields and select the right technology for instrumentation strategy.
- Working as subject matter expert for instruments based on low coherence interferometry, optical coherence tomography, and machine vision.
- Internal interaction requires interpretation of complex information; external interaction mainly requires exchange of factual information. Audience may be outside own area and unfamiliar with the technology.
- Designs components, fixtures, or major portions of a functional system, or technically advanced prototype, or specific products for medical device/science/technology.
- Uses intermediate to high level analytical techniques to evaluate instruments/techniques and measurement methods, perform measurement system analysis.
- Uses intermediate to high level analytical techniques and/or previous experience to identify the most appropriate option to adapt or improve existing technology/instruments to meet new product development needs.
- Applies engineering principles to the research and development of medical device/science/technology and/or provide engineering expertise to support development projects.
- Assures continuity of products and processes, lead and help validation of instruments/methods for medical device development and method transfer to production.
- Leads design reviews, assigns, and reviews action items. Ensures regulatory / statutory / legislative compliance for all project work.
- Makes decisions impacting scope of work where appropriate.
- Requires awareness of the workings of the business beyond own team and some familiarity with the external environment as it affects own part of the organization.
- Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+0 yrs)
- The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
- 5 Years of Relevant Experience
- Optical and metrology instrumentation, such as imaging applications, interferometers, surface profiling, etc.
- Knowledge/experience in optical technology and system integration, with familiarity with optomechanical design; CAD skills are desirable but not required.
- Analytical skills, including data analysis using tools such as Matlab and Minitab.
- Background in physics, mathematics, and statistics are preferred.
- Software development experience desired but not required.
- PhD or equivalent, with 1 to 15 years of experiences in a relevant field
- This position can be offered at Sr Engineer to Sr Principal level, depending on the candidate's experience and qualification.
