Reporting to the Associate Director, Clinical Services and Support, the Clinical Applications Manager, US Clinical Services and Support is responsible for team consisting of 10-12 FTEs and management of a $2.6 million annual budget. The Clinical Applications Manager oversees the installation, training and embedding efforts of over $16 million in annual capital equipment across Cataract, Refractive and Glaucoma commercial and service business units in addition to an existing install base of over 560 pieces of equipment. The Clinical Applications Manager also supports $10 million in service revenue via deploying the CAS to support our service contract customers training needs.

Directly manages, coaches, and develops a team of Clinical Applications Specialists who are subject matter experts (SMEs) providing in-person and virtual training/support to surgeons (ophthalmologists) and their support staff (nurses, technicians, and administrators) on Alcon's portfolio of advanced technology medical device equipment and software as a service (SaaS).

Responsible for implementing US strategy into their regional market including the digital transformation focused on surgeon clinical knowledge, patient outcomes, speed of adoption, Alcon / Customer ecosystem, and the digital tools enabling speed and quality of clinical upskilling enabling accelerated growth and adoption of business strategies.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Leads local CAS division in delivering world-class clinical training infrastructure for surgeons and their support staff throughout the Alcon advanced technology product lifecycle ecosystem and directly associated with revenue recognition.
  • Understands business strategy within division of cross-functional leaders to ensure successful implementation of US CAS strategy within division.
  • Implements the goals and objectives of US CAS priorities with the agility to execute change within their team as business needs evolve.
  • Strategic partner with US Clinical Services leadership, Regional Service Manager, local Commercial team, and affiliated cross-functional partners on new product launches, software upgrades, and new application deployments by managing CAS resources to ensure successful installation and training needs are delivered.
  • Promotes a diverse and inclusive culture by recognizing, celebrating, and rewarding differences.
  • Continuous learner that identifies new and innovative approaches to help advance the US CAS Org. on how we train/support customers, grow and develop talent, along with supporting the personal growth of oneself.
  • Provides comprehensive advice to complex issues where data is not clear or appears to be in conflict, by assessing and using judgment to select the right course of action, remaining calm and relieving tension and stress during difficult conversations.
  • Works with Director, Clinical Services and Support on Organizational Talent Reviews (OTR) to ensure strong pipeline of quality talent.
  • Assign resources for timely and efficient Clinical Applications support at surgical sites, requiring effective collaboration with the local sales, Technical Services, and marketing teams.
  • Champion culture of ongoing development by seeking out opportunities for growth, projects, and peer coaching.
  • Responsible for monitoring and translating customer feedback into actionable insights by communicating these to the US CAS Leadership, Medical Affairs, Marketing and R&D functions.
  • Drive product improvements by relaying customer and Clinical Applications associates feedback via appropriate communication plans.
  • Adherence to all corporate compliance guidelines & corporate programs.
  • Builds extensive internal and/or external networks to facilitate achievement of objectives for assigned area of responsibility.
  • Ensure appropriate response to unsolicited HCP requests for information related to Alcon medical devices.
  • Assign direct reports attendance to support Medical Congresses, fellowships, conferences, exhibits, seminars, and wet-labs, as appropriate.
  • 1:1 field ride-along visits within the division to assist in the growth and development of their team.
  • Optimally manage headcount within division to ensure coverage of key customers and initiatives.
  • Recruit, retain, train, and develop talent to meet Clinical training readiness requirements within division.
  • Ensure ongoing competence of the Clinical Applications team via annual recertification and recommendations for other supplemental technical training as necessary.
  • Support the on-going personal and professional development of direct reports through robust development plans and formal development discussions.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+1 yr)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
  • 5 Years of Relevant Experience
  • 3 Years of Demonstrated Leadership
  • Travel Requirements: 30-40%
