As a Staff Data Scientist in the Notification & Engagement space, you will be instrumental in shaping our strategy to drive user engagement and satisfaction through a cohesive user experience both on and off of the Airbnb platform. 

You will collaborate with XF partners across product, engineering, design and marketing to improve and personalize our notifications to ensure that we are delivering the right information to both guests and hosts at key moments in their journeys —while making sure our messaging aligns seamlessly with their in-product experience

A Typical Day: 

  • Measurement: Research and develop metrics to measure notification fatigue, and leverage causal inference techniques to estimate the cost of sending too many messages.
  • Build: Partner with Engineering teams to develop and evaluate models to optimize the timing, channel and priority of external notifications (ex: emails, push notifications).
  • Insights: Perform a deep-dive analysis of the effectiveness of various product experiences across marketing channels and user states, using insights to inform cross-channel personalization strategies.
  • Influence: Regularly present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical partners to inform strategy and cross-functional roadmaps

Your Expertise:

Advanced degree (PhD or Masters) in Data Science, Econometrics, Statistics, or a related field.9+ years of relevant industry experience (6+ with a PhD)Proven ability to effectively communicate and influence at various altitudes to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience working with XFN partners in product, engineering, and design to enable data-driven product development with a focus on the user experience
  • Experience with causal inference and machine learning techniques, ideally in a multi-sided platform setting
  • Prior experience in notifications and/or marketing is preferred

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
