We’re seeking an organized, passionate and versatile team contributor to support the international Icons roadmap and support a Global Communications team that is developing year-round campaigns to insert Airbnb into a wide range of pop culture conversations.

The difference you will make:

This Senior Communications Manager role in Mexico City, will be responsible for telling Airbnb's story, with a strong focus on growing positive brand awareness, and executing strategic communication plans in the country with support from the Regional Latam Comms team. The new hire will be working alongside a cross-functional team from the broader Business, Marketing, Policy and Legal teams to maintain the company’s position with relevant stakeholders, supporting the company's voice on a range of topics including increasing brand awareness, driving consumer demand, government regulation, taxes and legal matters among others.

This full-time role will be based in Mexico City, Mexico. The role will report to the Mexico Communications Lead and form part of the broader Latam Communications team.

A typical day:

  • Provide guidance and support to the Mexico Policy Team and to the Business on all communications matters.
  • Develop a clear and thorough Policy and Corporate communications plan and cadence for the market.
  • Identify proactive press opportunities in support of legislative and policy priorities (i.e. moving a bill forward, demonstrating the impact of a tax agreement, outlining our policy positions) as well as business/consumer needs (e.g. pitches involving key target audiences and expansion opportunities for the business from consumers perspective.
  • Manage all aspects of reactive press requests and ensure utilization of all tools available (data, industry research, host stories, etc.) to defend Airbnb’s community and brand
  • Develop written materials (story pitches, messaging guidelines, Q&As, briefs, presentations, speeches, etc.) and manage approval process with stakeholders
  • Help prepare Airbnb spokespeople (Campaign Managers, Country Managers, Airbnb Executives, etc.) for public speaking engagements, media interviews, etc. 
  • Develop and manage relationships with key reporters in the market.
  • Identify proactive press opportunities and drive national/global announcements, in support of policy, corporate and consumer communications goals. 
  • Identify and drive executive communications opportunities 
  • Supports local operations for the Global Consumer & Entertainment team in Mexico for international consumer campaigns across Icons, Celebrity Hosting and Local Consumer Campaigns.
  • Ability to oversee creative ideation and execution for individual Icons, Consumer, Corporate and Policy Communications campaigns and act as Project Manager and Program Manage
  • Develops and manages individual project budget trackers.
  • Manages key external agency partners and third party brands, including drafting scopes of works, reviewing creative proposals, term sheets and executing contracts.
  • Work effectively within a high-performing international team with evolving priorities and rapidly changing timelines.

Your expertise:

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • 8+ years of Communications/Public Relations experience, either working in an agency or in-house
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English and Spanish is a must. 
  • Proven-track record of building and activating effective communications initiatives inside a private company or PR agency.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of Mexico’s cultural trends and pop culture and has experience working with industry partners to build effective campaigns.
  • Understanding of celebrity/influencer marketing and local social media channels. 
  • Expert knowledge of Mexico’s media environment and political landscape including public policy matters - more specifically relating to traveling, housing, technology, and the short term rental industry.
  • Experience working with and executing celebrity/influencer campaigns.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multi-functional leads in a matrix organization. 
  • Excellent writing skills with samples to share.

Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant will need to be based in Mexico City, Mexico to be able to conduct their work.
