Airbnb’s Legal Department is a global team that will require working with diverse international colleagues around the world. The Difference You will Make:
We are in search of an exceptional, qualified, attorney to be our Associate General Counsel leading and covering legal matters for Mexico as part of the Latin America (LATAM) team, being responsible for advising Airbnb’s innovative business for Mexico and supporting all functions of our team in Mexico as well as serving as legal POC for specific areas for Latin America. This role reports to the DGC for Latin America. Collaboration will be a key attribute as this role will work very closely with other members of the LATAM Legal team and the Mexico Airbnb team, as well as peers globally. This role is based in Mexico City.
A Typical Day:
- Lead and directly provide general legal support for all aspects of the Mexico businesses. It includes hands-on support across a wide range of areas, such as, business development, marketing, consumer rights, e-commerce, employment, dispute resolution (includes managing litigation), contracts and industry-specific regulations.
- Identify priorities and define and drive proactive legal strategy and tactics for Airbnb in Mexico. Anticipate legal risks while navigating the legal opportunities and challenges posed by the direction of the business.
- Provide regulatory legal strategic advice and hands on legal support (includes bill revisions). It involves supporting from the legal perspective functions of the Public Policy and Tax teams in Mexico, as may be necessary.
- Manage litigation, particularly regulatory litigation.
- Provide legal advice on new businesses, new projects and product related matters to be implemented locally, conducting distilled legal risk assessments and practical solutions for risk mitigation.
- Review and comment on Airbnb policies, workflows and other related documents with a local lens.
- Manage a couple of Mexico based counsels dedicated to Airbnb Mexico, ensuring legal work is being done in a very high quality, consistent and timely manner.
- Serve as legal POC/coordinator for Regulatory - Public Policy and specific areas for Latin America.
- Effectively collaborate with international colleagues, whether in LATAM or abroad, to provide globally aligned legal advice that appropriately balances domestic and global perspectives and needs.
- Help design, implement and iterate legal department and compliance processes to keep up with growth, with a particular view towards addressing local concerns.
- Active championship of Airbnb’s mission, ethics and integrity.
Your Expertise:
- Law degree in Mexico, with strong academic credentials. A master’s degree is a plus.
- +18 years’ relevant post-qualification experience. Experience in a consumer-facing technology related company is a plus.
- Experience as a legal generalist, with deep knowledge in administrative law and litigation, as well as a proven record of supporting regulatory related matters from a legal perspective.
- Fluency (reading/writing/speaking) in English is essential. Portuguese is a plus.
- Excellent written and oral communication and listening skills.
- Ability to spot and assess legal risks, and provide actionable recommendations in a clear and concise manner, with attention to detail.
- Comfortable and adaptable working in a fast-paced environment, with an ability to prioritize and work under pressure.
- Highly collaborative, proactive, team-oriented person.
- Adaptable individual possessing high integrity and a proven ability to function independently while exercising good judgment who consistently delivers creative, thoughtful and business-oriented results.
- Proven track record working with outside counsel, setting clear expectations and objectives when engaging with them.
- Intellectually curious, open-minded, and excited by dynamic change.
- Some travel may be required.
