As the second-line Operational Risk Team Lead, based in Amsterdam, you will lead a growing team of currently 5 professionals that maintain and continuously improve our operational risk management framework. Included is our model risk management framework. You will guide and mentor the team, ensure the delivery of high quality work, and closely cooperate with the other teams within the Enterprise Risk function.
Adyen is both a technology company and a licensed bank. We develop financial software and deploy a high level of automation, whilst simultaneously adhering to the operational risk Basel framework. We combine the best of both worlds; the innovative strengths of technology with the stability of our licenses. We operate a single central setup and do this globally, this means your team has a diverse background and skill sets, and works across multiple time-zones with the majority located in Amsterdam.
Our ideal candidate knows how to build out a comprehensive and overarching operational risk framework, has seen this before whilst working in tech or financial services.
What you’ll do
- Lead a team across time zones that is responsible for second-line managing operational risk. The aim is to manage the risk in an efficient manner while staying within our risk appetite.
- Be a key source of knowledge regarding operational risk.
- Engage with key stakeholders and work cooperatively to present, create, develop and/or implement suggestions and recommendations regarding our risk management, development of new products, and continuous improvement of processes, policies and procedures.
- Institute accountability, track team progress and success, and present results to Senior Leadership.
- Help define and clearly communicate objectives and goals for the Operational and Model Risk team.
- Coach and mentor members of the team, and play a key role in their personal and professional development.
- Bring together the current strong but separate operational risk elements into an overarching operational risk framework.
- Be an ambassador of the Adyen Formula.
Who you are
- You have a strong track record in operational risk management, experience with working with(in) the second line risk management capacity
- You have at least 5 years experience with operational risk management, of which ideally 2 years experience leading teams and developing talent
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing operational risk frameworks, ideally in financial services or in technology.
- Proven expertise in engaging with regulators or in regulatory projects, with a deep understanding of regulatory requirements related to operational risk.
- Passionate and driven about leading a well-functioning and motivated team and mentoring and encouraging team members to continuously develop and grow.
- You are innovative, with strong problem-solving capabilities and able to define efficient and effective processes and procedures.
- You are able to serve as an escalation point to varied risk management questions and challenges.
- You have strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Payments or Fintech experience is not required, but you must be able to communicate your enthusiasm for the space.
