We seek an enthusiastic Engineering Lead to lead our global Checkout teams and contribute to our mission to empower Adyen's customers to optimise their payment performance and shopper experience. The Checkout team owns the end-to-end development cycle for all Checkout products. This includes back-end, Web based, Mobile and hosted Checkout products that are being used by millions of shoppers around the globe every day.

In this role, you will be a manager of managers and responsible to set and execute on the strategy for Adyen's Checkout products together with your Product counterpart. You help your team to build their products as effectively as possible, while aligning with your many internal and external stakeholders to achieve the best possible outcome for Adyen's customers. Working with a global team and different technology stacks excite you and you're not afraid to challenge the status quo.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with design, product, engineers, sales, account management, and other key stakeholders within Adyen to foster seamless collaboration and drive product development excellence
  • Product Strategy: Craft a long-term vision for your team's product, striking a pragmatic balance between trade-offs and aligning it with the overarching company vision
  • Team Motivation and Coaching: Exhibit leadership and inspire your managers, acting as a catalyst by coaching in areas such as engineering best practices, scalable architecture design, and product roadmap planning
  • Goal Setting: Establish clear team objectives that harmonize with Adyen's strategic payment objectives, working closely with the product managers to achieve alignment
  • Team Environment: Cultivate an inspirational and collaborative team environment characterized by open communication and a culture of constructive feedback
  • Talent Acquisition: Lead the recruitment of new team members who embody the Adyen culture and possess the requisite skills to make meaningful contributions

Requirements:

  • Experience: 
    • You have at least 3 years of experience as manager of managers. 
  • Technical Proficiency: 
    • You have worked with back-end, front-end and mobile applications, and you’re skilled in bridging gaps and ensuring compatibility across diverse platforms. 
    • You have a strong understanding of security, compliance and privacy best practices.
    • Reliability is a priority for you and you have experience working with critical systems. 
  • Leadership Qualities: 
    • You are a dynamic self-starter adept at fostering alignment across multiple teams, with solid coaching and mentoring capabilities. You have a track record of hiring and growing top talent. 
  • Customer Facing: 
    • You love spending time speaking directly with customers, building long-lasting relationships (both internally and externally), and understanding the real-world impact of the decisions you make add value to commercial internal conversations and merchant meetings.
  • Strategic Thinking: 
    • You enjoy and have a track record of collaborating with senior leadership to shape strategic direction. You’re able to translate business goals into engineering initiatives in a way that excites your team.
  • Communication and Team Player: 
    • As an exceptional communicator, you foster a culture of collaboration while exhibiting robust management skills and technical acumen
