The Chief Financial Officer assists the President/CEO in the oversight of the financial activities of the credit union, directs the preparation of current financial reports and summaries, and create forecasts predicting future growth. The CFO position is responsible for treasury, budgeting, tax, accounting, asset and liability management, and financial control activities. The CFO position plans, directs, and controls the organization's overall financial plans and policies, and accounting practices. This position develops and coordinates necessary and appropriate accounting and statistical data and reports. The CFO counsels management on fiscal control and profitability. The CFO is responsible for the fair measurement and presentation of the company's financial results and condition under U.S. GAAP, and for the safeguarding and optimum use of the organization's assets in order to maximize return.

The CFO directs Accounting, Business Reporting, and Finance, providing leadership, training and supervision while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures, applicable state and federal banking regulations and laws. The CFO manages an expanding team of high-level professionals. This position must be focused on meeting operational and strategic goals as well as the professional growth, development and success of their team members.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages direct reports to maximize productivity, efficiency, and the potential of the human assets of the company, including hiring, directing job assignments, monitoring staff performance, coaching, counseling, training, assuring compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational mission, values, policies and work rules. Appraise performance and provide recommendations for staff compensation, promotion, and termination, as appropriate.
  • Oversees budget planning, preparation and administration processes to control operating expenses and achieve the company's strategic objectives.
  • Manages and optimizes the investment and borrowing portfolios of Advia Credit Union in order to achieve above average earnings and safeguard the assets of the financial institution for the membership.
  • Monitors interest rate, credit and portfolio risk status and set limitations as required for Asset/Liability Management. Identify ways to reduce interest rate risk and sensitivity. Provide detailed ALCO and Investment reports to Board and Executive Management. Updates the ALM policy in accordance with the NCUA rules and regulations.
  • Proactive outreach and engagement with the community. This could include utilizing Advia volunteer hours, serving on committees or boards, or other situations that help support Advia's core values and social mission.
  • Responsible for the leadership team managing the Analytics team. This team supports all of the analytics needs of Advia CU. This may include recommending marketing activity, increasing market expansion and managing product and service delivery products. This position directs quantitative and qualitative research efforts using statistical methodology and studies to conduct analysis of programs, products and services offered, market potential, competitive intelligence, member satisfaction and industry standards to recommend sales goals and to help drive progress.
  • Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Additionally, all employees must follow policies and procedures to minimize risk by exercising judgment, raising questions to management, and adhering to policy guidelines.

Requirements

Experience

Experience in investment strategies and management of liquidity and investment portfolios.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

A college degree and a professional certificate or a post graduate degree. CFA, CPA and CMA preferred.

Interpersonal Skills

Work frequently involves contacts requiring considerable discussion of problems, material presentations, and resolving issues impacting multiple departments or divisions. The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of professional diplomacy, trust and relationship. Obtaining cooperation and agreement (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job and an expert level of interpersonal and written communication skills are critical to the success of this position.

Other Skills

Experience in generally accepted accounting principles and all State and Federal regulations, including those of the Financial Accounting Standards Board, affecting the company's finance function.

Experience in budget forecasting and regulatory reporting.

Knowledge of income tax regulations and requirements for Thrift institutions.

Physical Requirements

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 4-6 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of travel by automobile (as driver when necessary), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled private office with minimal noise.

Must be able to perform job functions independently and work effectively either on own or as part of a team; capable of planning and directing the work activities of others. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
