Well, we’ve done it, friends—we’ve survived 2020. It was a challenging year to say the least—I never imagined on January 1 last year that I’d spend the next 12 months facing a global pandemic, having 8,349 Zoom meetings, celebrating birthdays from afar, or developing so much intimacy with the interior of my apartment, but here we are.
And yet 2020 had its gifts as well. For many of us, it’s provided a renewed sense of what matters to us individually, as well as a better understanding of ourselves—the things we want, need, and fear, as well as how we process and experience the world. The challenges of this year may have even brought clarity about what we’d like more or less of in our lives.
Regardless of circumstance, this upheaval—personal and global—has also set the stage for change. After disorder comes order, and 2021 will be no exception. We’re all being given a chance to reimagine and reinvent ourselves—and to reimagine and reinvent the world around us as well.
Heading into this new year, I’ve never been more convinced that finding the career path and the job that’s right for you at a company whose values align with your own is the key to unearthing greater meaning, performing better, and ultimately succeeding.
It’s why Alex and I started The Muse in the first place.
