We all start somewhere, and your first job is preparing you for the rest of your career.

It’s safe to say your firsts are memorable. Your first car, your first dance at prom, your first time visiting a new country—the list goes on. And though we have scrapbooks filled with postcards from our favorite trips, we rarely spend time reminiscing on the impact of another important first in our lives: our first job.

To see how humble beginnings can set us up for future success, we spoke to employees at Lockheed Martin who spend their days designing spacecraft for Mars and programming satellites to orbit Jupiter on the lessons they learned from their first jobs.
