Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity and inclusion, or D&I, is a hot topic in the workplace, but what does it really mean? Diversity refers to the spectrum of differences we bring to work, in our demographics and our identities—such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, neurodiversity, and more. But building a diverse team isn’t enough. Inclusion means making employees of all backgrounds and identities feel welcomed, respected, and appreciated. Together, diversity and inclusion (sometimes also including equity, as in DEI, or diversity, equity, and inclusion) encompasses the work that companies, leaders, and employees can do to make sure that all kinds of people are not only represented, but also valued.
