TikTok Data Lifecycle Management team's mission is to ensure responsible data practices across TikTok and meet privacy commitments made to regulators and end-users. The team is working on TikTok's privacy-related systems and initiatives, including data minimization, data taxonomy, data retention, purpose limitation etc.
This role, Software Architect - TikTok Privacy, will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems for TikTok's platform while ensuring that user data is protected and used ethically. This role will require a deep understanding of privacy principles and laws, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to develop and implement solutions that meet business requirements and privacy requirements. They will work closely with product management, engineering, privacy, and security teams to ensure that our systems and services are designed and built to meet TikTok's privacy requirements and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend systems with a focus on user privacy and data protection
- Work with product management and engineering teams to ensure that privacy considerations are integrated into TikTok's architecture and development process
- Collaborate with privacy and security teams to ensure that the systems and services comply with relevant privacy laws and regulations
- Develop and maintain our technology roadmaps that prioritize user data privacy
- Identify and evaluate new technologies and tools that could improve TikTok's privacy posture
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers on the team on privacy-related topics
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
- Strong understanding of software technologies and architecture, such as distributed systems, databases, messaging systems, and caching
- Experience with microservices architecture and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP
- Experience with Agile development methodologies and DevOps practices
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Preferred Qualification:
- 5 years of industry experience in a software development environment.

Job Information
[For Pay Transparency] Compensation Description (annually)
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $212800 - $389500 annually.
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
