Discover Impactful Work:

Your role as a Staff Optical Systems Engineer requires expertise in optical systems and provides technical leadership for new product development and innovation in genetic analysis instrumentation.

What will you do?

  • Understand customers and passionately represent their needs in optical system product requirements
  • Partner with product management to translate customer needs into optical system requirements
  • Design optical systems
  • Develop optical models, analyze optical tolerance stack-ups, and lead sensitivity analysis
  • Partner with the Operations team leading the design transfer

How will you get here:

Education

BS/MS/Ph.D. degree or equivalent experience in an Optical Engineering field, Applied Physics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering

Experience

  • Ph.D. or equivalent experience with 3+ years of industry experience, or MS or equivalent experience with 5+ years of industry experience, or BS or equivalent experience with 7+ years of industry experience.
  • Track record of developing moderate complexity RUO instrumentation
  • Has been optics lead or sub-team optical lead through product development cycles which incorporate optical imaging systems
  • Experience building, and maintaining optics lab

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Deep understanding of fluorescence-based optical detection systems
  • Solid foundation and hands-on experience in optics, optical physics, optical instrumentation, and system troubleshooting
  • Experience with optical modeling tools, including ZEMAX
  • Knowledge of materials and processes used in the manufacture of optical components
  • Familiar with the key technical elements of genetic analyzers
  • Able to champion and align collaborators on technical trade-offs relative to optical solutions

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $129,400.00-$172,500.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
