The Hartford's AI platform team is looking for a visionary leader to support our efforts in creating, architecting, and developing the AI platform to accelerate the development, deployment, and management of AI and GenAI models and solutions across the enterprise.

In this pivotal role, you will report to the AVP, Core Engineering Platform and will be responsible for leading technical execution while working closely with engineering teams to provide guidance and mentorship.

You will support business and technology stakeholders in executing AI-driven initiatives that align with Hartford's strategic AI growth agenda. Your role will focus on overseeing the technical execution of AI solutions, ensuring operational stability, and optimizing engineering workflows. You will collaborate closely with AI and MLOps engineers, providing hands-on guidance and driving cross-functional coordination to enhance platform efficiency, scalability, and overall system reliability.

This role can have a Remote or hybrid work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week. Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports the AVP, Core Engineering Platform in executing AI platform core capabilities.
  • Hands-on leadership role, actively working with teams and providing technical guidance.
  • Ensures technical strategies align with the AI platform's core capabilities.
  • Assists in managing engineering tasks, driving execution, and optimizing workflows.
  • Promotes best practices in AI, ML, and data engineering across teams.
  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams to implement AI platform components efficiently.
  • Lead a team of AI/ML engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing work culture.
  • Coaching and mentoring the AI engineering team members and foster their professional growth and development.
  • Build excellent AI engineering team through recruiting and developing top talent

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles with a strong focus on AI, ML, or data platform development.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure.
  • Knowledgeable about the principles and practices of FMOps and LLMOps, and the tools and technologies used for generative AI model operations.
  • Strong understanding of GenAI, machine learning, and related technologies along with business acumen.
  • Ability to collaborate and partner with business leaders and IT/Data Science teams.
  • Experience in leading Agile teams and providing guidance, SAFE experience is a plus.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills at the senior management level.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage teams made up of both employees and vendor partners that are located in multiple geographies.
  • In-depth knowledge of data management strategies, practices, and principles is a plus.
  • Experience with cloud-based data-related platforms and open-source data-related technologies is beneficial.
  • Experience establishing frameworks for data quality, data governance, stewardship, and metadata management is valuable.
  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Computer Science or related fields.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Demonstrate a bias for action.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$156,000 - $234,000
