Department Description:

The Data Science team consists of professional roles that provide consultative support with data & analytics-based business insights and/or solutions to guide decision making and/or strategic planning; it leverages and interprets data and analytical product to provide business specific or broad strategic insight by using a variety of analytics techniques and audience-specific communication skills. This area can also focus on gathering, analyzing and modeling all kinds of data to develop business insights or analytics solutions and generally involves the use of broad range of statistical and/or mathematical models/techniques and tools.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Science - Canadian Personal Banking, the Senior Data Scientist will enhance AI-driven insights in Power BI dashboards and maintain and develop complex ETL engines using Microsoft Azure and Databricks. This role requires expertise in data engineering, ETL pipelines, and query optimization, along with the ability to translate insights for non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize AI-driven Power BI dashboards, focusing on implementing Power BI AI features such as automated insights and natural language querying, rather than developing brand-new machine learning models. Migrate legacy Tableau dashboards to Power BI while ensuring seamless connectivity with Azure-based metrics.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance complex ETL pipelines and data processing workflows, leveraging Azure Databricks (PySpark) to improve efficiency, optimize query performance, and ensure the reliability of data integrations. Diagnose and troubleshoot slow queries and performance issues.
  • Summarize insights for executive audiences and explain root causes and solutions to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clear, actionable recommendations for business strategy. Present findings in an accessible manner through reports, dashboards, and presentations to drive informed decision-making.
  • Translate business requirements into technical tasks, working closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements, define project scope, establish acceptance criteria, and accurately estimate the time and effort required for completion. Ensure technical solutions align with business goals and provide realistic timelines for implementation.
  • Contribute as an individual contributor while actively engaging with senior and intermediate analysts in collaborative problem-solving, sharing expertise, mentoring junior analysts when needed, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team.

Job Requirements:

  • 5-10 years' experience in data science, analytics, and engineering.
  • Strong expertise in Azure Databricks & PySpark as well as large-scale data processing.
  • Proficiency in ETL pipeline development and query optimization.
  • Advanced Power BI skills, including AI-driven analytics is required.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to derive insights, solve complex problems, and clearly communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with Tableau (for migration) and Alteryx (legacy conversion) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of machine learning concepts is an asset, however the primary focus is on AI implementation rather than model development from scratch.
  • Experience in Agile environments is preferred.
