The Product Safety Engineer position is a part of the Central Engineering team remotely supporting Product Safety across all of Collins Aerospace. This position would be a part of a great team supporting SMS Process Excellence within North America and supporting our businesses Internationally.
What You Will Do:
- Take full technical responsibility for communicating with internal customer to achieve the best possible safety risk analysis (SRA) with the data available
- Provide input to optimize product safety mitigation implementation, including specialized burndown plans to account for nonstandard scenarios
- Provide ad hoc statistical support in line with issues that could lead to product safety issues. This includes tasks such as sample size determination for potential escapes or testing requirements to meet desired reliability at specified confidence level
- Participate and present at Collins Risk Analysis and Statistical Methods community of practice (CoP). Provide mentoring and guidance to junior risk analysts
- Support the Product Safety Managers (PSM) as needed with participation and support at the Product Safety Integrity Team (PSIT) and Product Safety Board (PSB)
- Support development of strategic roadmap for SMS safety risk management pillar
- Coordinate with Reliability and System Safety Analysis to assure product safety imperfections and improvements are properly recorded and accounted for in read-across
- Support risk management activities, including safety policy, risk management, assurance, and promotion
- Continue to develop and participate in efficient process improvements using CORE Principles
- Must be willing and able to travel up to 10%

What You Will Learn:
- Detailed understanding of Commercial and Military Platforms (e.g. Aircraft) architectures, capabilities, system performance, specific Collins product operations, safety features and redundancies.
- Safety analyses methodologies, predictions and approaches used by Regulators, Industry and our customers
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience
- U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required
- 5+ years prior experience in statistical analysis
- 5+ years experience using Weibull analysis, reliability tools, and Excel to code in a programming language (R, Python, etc.)
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Ability to communicate and present to all levels of the organization
- Experience with Monte Carlo simulation
- Experience in the mathematics and methodologies of safety and reliability engineering, including a general understanding of fault tree analysis, reliability block diagrams and FMEA.
- Knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical engineering, including inspection methods and manufacturing techniques.
- Experience being a team player and consultant on risk, reliability, safety, and statistics.
- MS or PhD in statistics with exceptional skill level programming in R.

Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home). An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed.
This position is remote; however, if you live within a reasonable commute of a Collins site with other colleagues you interact with, your manager will discuss whether there is a degree of onsite presence associated with this role
The salary range for this role is 143,000 USD - 287,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
