The Royal Caribbean Group's Corporate Communications Team has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Director, External Communications reporting to the AVP, External Communications.

This position will work on-site in Miami, Florida.

Position Summary:

The Director of External Communications will support Royal Caribbean Group's (RCG) External Communications department by driving financial corporate communications as well as incident/risk communications and issues management on behalf of the corporation.

Reporting to the AVP of External Communications, the candidate will join a growing External Relations team, and work with the broader Corporate Communications team and with Investor Relations to support media relations around earnings announcements, and with other departments and senior leaders as incident issues emerge. The candidate will serve as a company spokesperson.

The Director of External Communications will be a curious, nimble and strategic communicator with solid media relations contacts and issues management knowledge and experience, to help advance RCG's story with consistent messaging and earned media goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strong writer and experienced storyteller with a deadline-driven approach, and skilled project manager to lead multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Collaborative partner that can build trusted relationships internally across a matrixed and global organization.
  • Possess, develop, and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including cruise trade, travel and lifestyle and consumer media, as well as business/finance reporters.
  • Writer and editor of all press materials including media pitches, press releases, fact sheets, media statements, press lists, and others as needed.
  • Work in alignment with the Corporate Communications team and other departments as required.
  • Experience using analytics and data to evaluate and drive communications strategies.
  • Be highly organized and detailed-oriented and have proven examples of executing varied priority projects, simultaneously, in a fast-paced global environment, acting with urgency and accuracy.
  • Make smart and efficient use of staff, vendors, agencies, existing materials, and resources available.
  • Travel and flexibility to support business events outside of regular hours including holidays and weekends.
  • Complete other tasks assigned by the AVP, External Communications.

Financial Communications
  • Conceptual fluency in finance fundamentals, with the ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly and effectively to external and internal audiences.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills for financial audiences and demonstrated ability in narrative development.
  • Proficiency absorbing, digesting and distilling complex subject matter and data into clear and concise content for internal and external audiences.

Incident and Risk Communications
  • Responsible for incident and risk communications, which includes working directly with AVP of External Communications and Chief Communications Officer and senior leadership on potential issues, including assigning weekend rotation coverage for Corporate Communications.
  • Represent department, and if needed, serve as communications leader on important cross-disciplinary teams, including multi-market teams and situation management incidents.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English or related field preferred.
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in media relations, corporate issues management and financial communications in a global and publicly traded company.
  • Exceptional track record of working effectively with the media, including demonstrated success in executing earned media campaigns resulting in coverage in major national outlets.
  • Knowledge and adherence to AP style.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Impeccable executive presence and strong ability to interact with senior executive team and build effective relationships within the company and media.
  • Strong planning capabilities to identify and prioritize communication strategies and activities and meet fast-moving deadlines.
  • Experience managing communications strategies with measurable results.
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills for different formats including announcements, reactive statements, briefing memos, press releases, video scripts, letters, etc.
  • Experience preparing and leading small teams in reputation-threatening circumstances.
  • Evidence of being a collaborative partner and confident thought leader.
  • Strong leadership and relationship management skills.
  • Journalistic curiosity and desire to always dig deeper for a story, and/or find gaps in stories.
