Camp Half-Blood is looking for Senior Counselors for its 2018 Summer Season at all 3 camp locations: Prospect Park Brooklyn, Inwood Hill Park, Manhattan, and South Mountain Reservation, New Jersey. The Senior Counselor is responsible for leading a cabin of 7-12 year-old Demigods on their weekly camp journey through the wild, magical world of mythology, and for developing them into the heroes they were meant to be.
The Ideal Senior Counselor is:
At least 18 years old with a passion for creating a fun, creative, and positive camp experience for campers and staff

Able to maintain a high standard of ethics, integrity and confidentiality, as well as an excellent work ethic, a high level of energy and exceptional enthusiasm all day, every day, for the entirety of the camp season
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
At least 18 years old by the start of work
At least 2 years of experience working with kids in a camp or equivalent educational setting
Completed at least 1 year of college or equivalent professional experience
Demonstrated leadership experience in a camp or educational setting
Interest & Skills in one or more of the following: literature, literacy, drama, theater arts, storytelling, music, visual arts, science & nature studies, fencing, combat, martial arts
Knowledge and passion for Storytelling & Mythology is a MUST for Camp Half-Blood
Must have read at least one book in the Percy Jackson series; additional knowledge/interest in the Rick Riordan literary universe is a plus
Current CPR & First Aid certification preferred
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Every Senior Counselor will be paired with a Junior Counselor on a cabin of no more than 16 campers between 7-12 years old
Ensure children's safety, manage children's behavior and model constructive participation in all daily activities
Develop and teach weekly Elective classes
Act as a role model and mentor for campers and staff: model constructive participation in all daily activities, help Junior Counselors and CIT’s develop their counselor skills
Work directly with Program Directors and Quest team to actively engage with storytelling and character building with campers; act as a Quest Guide for cabin on weekly adventures
Work closely with Head Counselor and Camp Director to ensure safety of all children
Facilitate camper check-in and check-out, and communicate effectively and professionally with parents
Senior Counselors may be asked to help with morning camp set-up as needed
All staff must participate in training sessions before camp begins
Senior Counselors will report directly to the Camp Director during the camp season
COMPENSATION
Summer staff positions are temporary, seasonal positions and do not include benefits. Expectations for work hours at Plato Learning programs are outlined above; we are committed to competitively compensating staff.
$15 per hour
Payroll is processed biweekly
