As part of one of the largest crystal growth facilities in the world in operation for over 57 years, our team members are responsible for producing laser grade optical materials serving the medical, industrial, and defense industries.
A Manufacturing Technician in the Crystal Growth department will collaborate within a technical team comprised of engineers, welders, and maintenance staff to perform all daily tasks associated with production of oxide and fluoride single crystals grown from the melt in high temperature furnaces.
The Crystal Growth Technician is responsible for the building and monitoring of crystal growth furnaces. Candidates must be able to read and interpret engineering blueprints and assemble furnace builds based off that information.
Other responsibilities will include weighing and mixing raw materials, operating crystal growth furnaces, monitoring data and graphs, and harvesting and evaluating final crystal products. The individual will gain hands-on experience operating specialized equipment as well as a technical understanding of the art and science of bulk crystal growth processes.
The Manufacturing Technician role requires an eye for detail and high quality of workmanship when assembling growth furnaces, preparing the raw materials used in the process, and harvesting and inspection of the crystals.
Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent is required
* Experience with standard hand tools and measuring devices including calipers and rulers
* Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a frequent basis
* Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn
* Must have computer experience and be able to work with spreadsheets
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates degree in a technical discipline is preferred
* Strong aptitude in basic math and science disciplines including physics and chemistry are preferred
* Crystal growth experience is preferred but not required
* Mechanical aptitude and good troubleshooting skills are preferred
Salary Range: *$40,100 - $66,800
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
