Description and Requirements
The VP Associate General Counsel is responsible for the performance of a wide variety of legal and regulatory activities of Healthfirst, Inc. and its subsidiaries. With broad latitude for independent judgment and discretion, the Associate Counsel works with all Healthfirst departments to provide legal advice and appropriate instruments.
Hybrid Work Schedule:
- Candidates must be open to working a hybrid work schedule consisting of reporting to our 100 Church Street, NYC office 3 days a week.
Scope of Responsibilities:
- Maintains familiarity with all requirements of law and regulation affecting the operation of a managed care company, with particular focus on provider contracting and risk transaction regulatory frameworks.
- Provides legal support to provider relations and finance on business and strategic initiatives of the company and answers inquiries from staff regarding legal issues.
- Advises General Counsel and other managers regarding legal, regulatory and business options available to the company.
- Directly performs legal tasks of a varying nature which are attendant to the operation of a nonprofit health care corporation, including but not limited, to the preparation and negotiation of provider, procurement, and other contracts affecting Healthfirst, the interpretation and dissemination of new legal requirements, obtaining approval from the New York State Departments of Health and Insurance for contracts and other actions.
- Negotiates and drafts contracts between Healthfirst and other companies and directs work to outside counsel performing legal tasks for Healthfirst and its subsidiaries.
- Assists the General Counsel in the performance of duties as Secretary to Healthfirst, Inc., and subsidiaries maintaining records and preparing resolutions and Board materials for all meetings of the Board.

Minimum Qualifications:
- J.D Degree
- 6-8 years of experience working in a law firm or corporate legal department.
- Must have provider contracting experience, New York preferred.
- Must have Healthcare regulatory experience, New York preferred.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to staff and management colleagues.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; acute attention to detail.
- Strong proficiency utilizing MS Office Suite.
Hiring Range:
- Greater New York City Area (NY, NJ, CT residents): $193,100 - $375,870
- All Other Locations (within approved locations): $193,100 - $375,870
As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, licenses and certifications, and any other factors Healthfirst deems pertinent to the hiring decision.

The hiring range is defined as the lowest and highest salaries that Healthfirst in "good faith" would pay to a new hire, or for a job promotion, or transfer into this role.
