THE POSITION
Our roster has an opening with your name on it
The Sr. Director of Technology Strategy & Operations reporting to the CTO will work on some of the tougher, complex issues that the business faces. They will also work to identify what the business needs to continue to execute their recommendations going forward. The role will work with senior leaders across the organization, and work in lock-step with the CTO. A critical element of the job is to work with the entire Technology Leadership Team and ensure they are executing and aligned in both strategy and day-to-day operations.
This role is very hands-on, requiring an energetic, strong individual contributor who is willing to roll up their sleeves and own and deliver outcomes in support of the organization. The role will support and build up capabilities within the Technology function with an "office of the CTO" goal.
This role will also support the Tech Transformative initiatives with the senior engineering leadership team, shaping and collaborating with stakeholders across FanDuel and Flutter to help drive strategic initiatives, shape strategy around engineering transformative activities, and enterprise tech programs to accelerate business impact and value.
THE GAME PLAN
Everyone on our team has a part to play
Tech Strategy and Operations:
- Report to and work side-by-side with the Chief Technology Officer to identify key strategic priorities for the FanDuel Engineering business unit and help develop and execute plans against said initiatives in partnership with technology leaders (example initiatives could include: deep dives into financial implications of cloud costs, location strategy, hackathons)
- Collaborate with CTO in developing engineering-wide communications and to keep teams up to date and on track to goals - including All Hands and Town Hall updates, providing visibility into engineering-wide goals and metrics, strategic objectives and key team initiatives
- Help to develop visibility into team roadmaps and priorities to enable leadership to identify key dependencies, risks and potential roadblocks
- Work with CTO and Engineering leadership to provide department updates to executive leadership team as applicable - including quarterly forecasts, progress against annual plans and goals etc.
- Act at the primary liaison between FanDuel engineering and central business counterparts such as Finance, HR, Legal as needed to enable seamless sharing of information and transparency
- Help team stay on track to goals and progress by developing mechanisms to enable accountability, platforms to raise risks and concerns and appropriate escalation channels
- Execute and own multiple operational work stream supporting the organization across software development productivity, fiscal efficiencies and monitoring, and helping to drive programmatic initiatives such as quarterly/annual roadmap resource and roadmap planning in support of the business units.
Tech Transformation & Innovation:
- Help FanDuel identify, test and evaluate strategic opportunities to leverage innovative technologies throughout our business in order to drive internal business value and consumer value
- Work across FanDuel with leaders from all verticals, including but not limited to marketing, central operations, product, engineering, customer operations and more to identify potential use cases for innovative technologies
- Work with leads and their top external partners to identify where there are opportunities to leverage 3rd parties to accelerate innovation quickly
- Develop prioritization framework and evaluate potential use cases across the business to identify biggest value drives to go after
- Run time-bound pilots to test the effectiveness and impact of specific identified technologies and determine if there is business value in scaling broader. Make recommendation to executive leadership team on go/no-go on scale
- For opportunities that are identified to scale, work with key stakeholders to help implement and ensure success and adoption
- Identify ways to engrain innovation into the FanDuel culture and act as a champion of those efforts - hackathons, ways of sourcing ideas from all levels of the business and making sure ideas are heard year round, developing innovation incentives etc.
THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate
- Minimum 10 years work experience, specifically in a problem-solving capacity. If you were a senior consultant that loved to solve problems in high-growth businesses, get stuff done and have real impact, but did not like selling work to a client...than you'll love this job. We are looking for experience from either a tech company, top tier consulting firm, PE Operations arm, or a well-established strategy division of a larger company.
- Experience working with product and technology teams strongly preferred
- Multiple years' experience managing teams and people.
- You get stuff done and roll up sleeves.. Has a proven track record of being able to drive initiatives through implementation. People who would prefer to talk about strategy vs actually do the work to implement it should not apply.
- Strong problem solver, ability to break complex problems into simpler, smaller ones
- Swiss-army knife knowledge across business practices. Must be a quick learner
- Holds a seat at the table, can speak at right level of detail when providing findings to executives. Has no trouble being tough and honest in professional conversations.
- Experience building strategic plans and approaches to running businesses.

The applicable salary range for this position is $212,000 - $265,000, which is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, location, business needs and market demand. This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses and stock program participation. This role includes paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays. FanDuel offers paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
