Principal Engineer, Product Software
Job Summary
Provides appropriate design solutions. Verifies stability, interoperability, portability, security, or scalability of architecture. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to provide scalable and secure solutions.
Responsibilities
Requirements Analysis
- Understands, reads, and reviews requirements
- Works with Business Analysts to understand business requirements
- Interacts with product management teams to understand product requirements and define product roadmaps
Software Architecture
- Participates in architectural review process
- Defines architecture, presents to the product management team, to ensure that the architecture is aligned with the product roadmap
Software Design
- Provides technical leadership to team for design of multiple products
- Evaluates and recommends adoption of open source
- Evaluates third party and off the shelf solutions to influence build vs. buy decisions
Development/Coding
- Participates in cross-technical technical integration and peer reviews
- Writes code based off of open source and third party packages
Testing
- Sets testing standards and recommends testing frameworks
DevOps
- Articulates a vision of on-prem and cloud infrastructure and drives its realization
- Provides executive team with updates aligning with the vision, charter and roadmap
- Participates in customer meetings to understand the Cloud and DevOps vision
- Brings in industry tools automation expertise and aligns Equinix practices accordingly
- Develops innovative solutions, processes and best practices by leading internal technical teams
Software Reliability & Support Engineering
- Manages internal/external customer relationships and communication, working with all the Product Stakeholders
- Participates in customer calls to understand issues and provide solutions
- Defines and publishes the SLA metrics and the compliance reports
- Ensures and enables ITIL compliance
Customer/Stakeholder Engagement
- Serves as a technical liaison for customer advisories, co-innovations, and single point of contact for incidents
Technical Project Management
- Works with technical project managers and product management teams to define schedule on multiple projects
- Provides overall project status reporting
- Manages and influences cross-functional release cycle
R&D/Innovation
- Investigates, analyzes, and evaluates new technologies
- Influences senior management in setting the organization's technical objectives
- Keeps abreast of new developments to help define the necessary changes to practice
- Has a significant impact on future products, technologies and business strategy
Qualifications
- 10+ years experience
- Bachelor's in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
